POC Lecturette

Post by simmo »

For any fellow PO's looking at the september batch, i was wondering if anyone could clarify the situation on the POC lecturette? my info tells me that the old format remains, that is a topic of your choosing, but then i hear talk of the subject matter now being yours truly ?! can anyone shed some light on this?

I had my brief and asked this question and the officer didn't know the answer, he still thought it was on a subject of your choosing. But one of the guys on my brief had the new brief (bit of paper) in hand to show the officer. Then the officer basically said disregard all previous instructions with regards to the lecturette.. and it is now on you.

I was told by my AFCO that the lecturette was on yourself, but then I recieved the confirmation of my POC date, and it said that the lecturette was on a topic of your choice - so I'm as lost as you guys

I think Iöm just going to assume it's about me. Safer that way. Now I'm just stuck for what to talk about. "What I did on my holidays" doesn't quite fit the bill. Does anyone have any clarification on what precisely they're looking for?

Aye that was me! Were you the one too my right then, closest to the door to go outside? You heard anything from Lindsey (the other guy there)? His POC was today wasnt it?

For my lecturette I'm just going to talk about family and interests, don't know what else to do!

NO BORING CONTENT!

Post by simmo »

yeah i was the guy by the door, my names andy. Not sure about the other dude cos i dont have his details but his POC was today i seem to remember. Hows you phys going then, reckon youre sorted? For anyon wondering about the lecturettes, i reckon if they are about ourselves we should make them interesting, for the sake of everyone else listening, if you can get all they other guys listening in then it will look more impressive and will save people from falling asleep after bottom field!! so no talk about pets or favourite times of day!!!

Hey andy, yeah I remember you, we had a chat whilst walking out. Did you say you were already in the RMR?

I tested my phys yesterday on some sprints and a bit of endurance and it's gone down like a lead baloon! Taken a week off because of illness, going swimming tonight and running tomorrow then another two days off, i'll assess how I feel after the w/e! Really need to get over this cold this week so I can have next week to train and build back up, then it's rest week then its POC! What kind of training are you doing ATM and finding useful? Do you do like fartlek or interval training?

hmm..if only i could run now!!

Post by simmo »

yes mate i am well into my fartlek and intervals, think they are important for bottom field leg strength as well as powering up hills on the endurance course. I know that some people will say endurance is key, and that is true enough, but having powerful legs maKes a lot of difference when you need to drag your wet muddy arse up another steep, stony slope on the course-and yes, ive done all the recruit training up until i arsed up my leg on the reserves commando course last summer-i was nearly there!! id be up for meeting up and doing a farlek around leighwoods or ashton court, but ive strained a tendon in my foot from sprinting yesterday, so cant run at all for a week!bugger! good luck with it!

I just checked with my AFCO, and he confirmed that the subject has definately changed to YOU. Also, visual aids aren't allowed any more. Apparently this is because the subjects/visual aids were beginning to overshadow the whole point of the exercise, which is to show an ability to talk to groups of people effectively etc etc. Not demonstrate an understanding of powerpoint. 8)

I know it's no visual aids like OHPs (like when I was there in 2002) but are you allowed prompt cards?

cheers, alex.

I was on the first POC where it all got changed! I even crashed my car preparing my lecture, but when we had our briefing they just said we have got to do it about ourselves now, with no visual aids, so I'm guessing it has remained the same since.
