RTS Question.

PADLOCKS !

It states on my kit list i should bring "4x Padlock & Keys (medium sized - including spare keys - not 'snaplocking')"

I understand this perfectly but i've read in one thread by one user on another forum that when he went to Halton, they weren't too fussed what padlocks he had.

I'm just wondering if anyone that's been to Halton recently can confirm whether i'd get away with snaplocking padlocks and avoid an almighty bollocking or whether i should fork out for the considerably more expensive and harder to find 'old' type. I predict that i will get the typical "get what they say, to be safe" answers, which i appreciate, but i'm really looking for a definitive answer from someone that knows first-hand.

Also - why do i need 4 ?

Also, also - if anyone else has any other hints, tips and advice for somebody starting RTS in a few weeks, please share them here. Be it a 'heads-up' on the training regime, any handy kit to take / not take, what to expect in terms of accomodation, food, hours etc..... It'd be a great help not only to me, but to many others that are embarking on the Halton experience, i'm sure.

I'm banking on Alex_Himself to answer this question when he comes back on Xmas leave, he'll know. It's a shame that such an easy to use, well designed and attractive forum fails to be attracting more users though, when places like TSR are positively buzzing in comparison.

Would just like to point out that this, like any other forum goes through quiet spots from time to time. It also happens that the main user group on the RAF section all seem to be posting on the same subject and only appear to want to talk about Cranwell and how well they may or may not be doing in their application process! The RAF section is the smallest and quietest for a reason, fewer people are interested in the subject of late and when someone takes a peek in here out of interest the majority of the posts are not interesting.There is much more to the RAF than some of you appear to think but perhaps that is because some of the posters on here only seem interested in themselves and blowing hot air up the asses of their little group of likeminded souls. Try looking at the quality and subject matter of your posts before blaming the forum for being boring! This isn't a dig at any person(s) in particular but for those that believe it may apply to them, just think how your threads may read to others before complaining about the response or lack thereof!

However I would take this opportunity to wish you all well in your endeavours and should you be successful will be the first to welcome you to the family!

Fark me a question about padlocks that went unanswered...the shock of it.

Try being abit mature over this fella as theres more to life than padlocks.

My guess to the "x four" issue is one for your locker, one for your foot locker, one for the security drawer in your locker and one for bedside drawer. (a fifth for your luggage and a spare wouldnt go a miss either)

If you get there and the RAF disbands and you all get to sent to Yeovil to join the Fleet Air Arm I will blame you on your lack of padlock preperation

HN - i see you conveniently left the bit where i praised the forum out of your quoting of me. Maybe my opening gambit came on a bit strong, but it wasn't necessarily a big fat dig at the forum itself - more at some of those that may (or may not) use it. I'm convinced there are people browsing that have the answers to many of the questions posed on here, if that's the case, why no answers ? I don't know, it just seemed that this place used to be fairly busy but doesn't seem so anymore. I do of course appreciate that most of those that used to post have gone on to actually join up themselves and might be actually finding their lives a bit busy to worry about the likes of me and my padlocks right now

If you read through some of the helpful threads though, you'll see that i have made (in my opinion) worthwhile contributions to them.

Believe me, my sole purpose in life isn't to spam up MB's with inane crap, but the padlock issue - as trivial as it is - was something that i thought i'd easily get an answer for on here. Maybe i misjudged that, but IMO it's not a situation where my maturity deserves to be questioned.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome - it's appreciated. As for 'being shown the door', great, i'll be using it in a few weeks but i can promise i'll be back when i can to offer any pearls of wisdom i pick up to other users - i can assure it's not all one way traffic with me - i intend to put back what i take

Perhaps I should have made it clearer that my post wasn't directed at you personally. I quoted you to put the point over about the forum being quiet at no time did I directly question the content or quality of "your" posts or question "your" maturity. I have read a fair amount of your posts and would agree that your contributions generally are constructive or seek information so please don't think that this was a "Let's bash Rizz session!" because that wasn't my intention!

you will do lots of things in training that will not be crystal clear or make any sense what so ever, just be reassured upfront theres a reason for it all, even if that reasoning isnt clear.

ho ho ho, im back, they ley us off for the weekend.

Rizza, perfectly good question about the padlocks, the list that you were given isn't very specific i found any way.

You can use normal padlocks that you might have on your shed or gate.

You'll need 1 for your bedside locker, 1 for each of your 2 military lockers and one for your civilian locker. no need for baggage padlocks. 4 4 padlocks.

i will create a new topic lateron once ive woken up a little more.

you will need the one that look like that http://www.evolvededicated.com/osc/images/padlock.jpg , and yes you will get a bollocking for ones that are snap locking, and you will get laughed at, everything you need is in the NAAFI shop on base incase you do forget something

I never got a bollocking for having snap type ones. When I was there the naafi only sold the snap type ones anyway!
