PJFT - Question.....

Post by D.Mc »

Hi Everyone,

First of all thanks to everyone for all the information supplied on this site, I have been reading it for about 6 months and has proved a great help for me in starting my application for the Royal Marines.

I went for my initial meeting with my local AFCO in Newcastle last Firday and picked up an application form etc. Everything seemed fine, and all the pre-entry tests were briefly described but notheing was mentioned about the PJFT. When I queried this I was told this is no longer done as it is included in the PRMC - is this true? I have been given the chance to do a PPRMC at RMR Tyne, which was described as "having a day of getting beasted" which I am up for! :P

Just wondering if anyone, especially in the Newcastle area have been told the same thing? Just find it quite strange as other people across the country have not mentioned this?

Thanks,
Dan

p.s. anyone taking part in "Meet the Marines" days?

I havent heard about any change, I done my PJFT just about 2 months ago. Maybe they are just replacing the PJFT with the Aquaint day, Which is basically "meet the marines day" lol

They make it sound so fun.

Cheers Lads,

I thought it was a bit strange when they said it wasn't needed anymore. Suppose I'll just keep training for it incase they spring it on me sometime. The person I was speaking to was fairly new into the job (in the AFCO) so I'm not going to take it as gospel at the moment.

Just thought it may have been different due to us having a RMR in our area. Cheers anyway.

I was at Newcastle AFCO yesterday, they never said anything to me. Did you get the RN wren behind the desk? I dont know loads about RM but she knew nothing!

Still, I'd probably hang out of it...

Just had confirmation about the Meet the Marines day this morning, mines on Sat 1st Oct at RMR Tyne. Sounds really good: -

"This is a rare chance to have fun, whilst gaining an insight into this elite Corps by participating in a range of exciting activities. Your programme may include physical challenges such as team games and circuit training, leadership tasks, rock wall climbing, abseiling, fast patrol boats, weapon familiarisation, unarmed combat and possibly rides in the new All Terrain Protected (ATVP) known as the "VIKING" & Rigid Raider boats."

0920 - 1600 hrs

Anyone interested should call 0845 6001444

Chappy - I spoke to the RM at the AFCO, he said he'd only been there for about 3 weeks and didnt know that the training is now 32 weeks long :o

I wouldnt be surprised if they got rid of the PJFT completely and replaced it with the Acquiant day. Passing the PJFT does not make you fit enough to pass a PRMC, but the acquaint day gives them a chance to evaluate you individualy. They'd save thousands on travell warants this way for a start.
