I'm going for ATC, FC and Flight Ops. I was in the August competition but didn't get in and got reboarded. This wait is absolute hell second time round! (Does anyone out there happen to know when the board meeting is? The last one was either the 1st/2nd August.)

Good Luck Rogue, will keep fingers crossed!

Hi Rogue - I'm at work at the moment (v.sad at 7am but you’ve got to earn money!). I’ll find my letter as soon as I’m able, but in a nutshell:

…very sorry to inform you that there were a limited number of places…would like to include your application in our next competition…understand if you want to withdraw your application…

As for the board Presidents comments, understand how you feel. The board president actually marked me up from a 2 to a 3(-). I felt that the boards comments were very harsh (and a couple totally out of order!). Board president was OK.

According to my AFCO Cranwell will not use 3 words when one will do. If you were to show them a burgundy car and a maroon car, they’ll tell you there are 2 red cars. They don’t sit there with a thesaurus looking for the most appropriate word – hence some of the comments can seem quite harsh.

Hope this helps, Gemma

My letter came on the 3rd Aug (Dated 2nd Aug). So pretty much any day now - not much help I'm afraid. On the 1st Aug I rang Cranwell up to try and find out the date of the August board and the lady on the other end told me that they only really know the day before it happens. So as the board was either that day, or the day after - the admin people really don't get told anything!

If you can get a direct number to the OASC reception you might get a better response - however they probably don't like you using that number for that kind of question.

This wait is horrible - last time I didn't have a clue the letter would come that early and I hardly had much of a wait. This time I know it could come any day.... Apparantly the latest you'll probably hear is the middle of November. I do reckon that it'll take them longer to send out the 'Yes' letters than it'll take to send out the 'No' ones so the longer the better.

Anyone out there ever had a yes from OASC and can give me any indication on the 'longer the better' theory? Also - are the 'yes' letters pretty thick? The 'no' ones are just a single sheet of paper.

Read my reply to the sticky by rogue. Also, i'd imagine the 'yes' envelopes are thicker as you are sent yet more forms to fill out.

I must apologise Gemma - what i was referring you to read was not actually in that reply, it was in a PM i sent to someone else. My mistake.

Basically, my reply came 2 weeks after OASC.

I had 19 on my board and we all tried to keep in touch via e-mail. I only ever heard back from 6 of them.

The first to hear back was a guy going for pilot - he was made for it and we all thought he'd do well at the time - he received a letter telling him he'd passed within a few days of OASC finishing.

Next i heard from was a girl who was going for Intel. Officer. She was told that she'd been successful at OASC, but they were going to put her into the October 'pot' for reselection with candidates from other boards. I've not heard back from her yet.

Then i heard from another who was going for pilot about a week and a half later and he was successful.

Next came myself and another guy who was going for Pilot and WSO but he'd been unsuccessful with it but was offered NCA. He accepted and providing he passes his P2 Med. (next week, i think, i'm the week after) then he will start RTS Halton on the same date as me - 4th Jan, which will be nice to have a friendly-ish face there !

Last to hear was a good friend of mine, the guy i mentioned in the sticky thread, his reply came 3 weeks later and he was unsuccessful, unfortunately - told to apply again in 12 months time.

So there you go, as far as i can tell, there isn't really any sort of pattern to how they send out the results, i suppose they just deal with you when they get round to it.

Hi, don't worry about the confusion, my reply was with reference to your post about letter thickness - hadn't read the sticky at that point.

I figured it was the case about how long the letter took. After OASC they seem to come around the same time - regardless of whether you passed or failed (same with my OASC - I kept in touch with about 5 other people). I'm wondering though if the IOT rejection letters arrive quicker than the IOT acceptance letters. My last IOT rejection letter came pretty much the day after they must have had the meeting/competition - guess it doesn't take much time to send out a no.

I'm going to try and stop second guessing Cranwell now - I don't think it's healthy to be honest! I'll just open the letter when it comes and try not to worry too much until then.

Rogue, I'll try and post as soon as my letter comes, so if yours hasn't arrived yet, at least you'll know that the board has happened.

Best way, that is.

When mine arrived i didn't open it, i peeked thru' the clear address window to see what i could see.
Dear Mr Watts,

We are delighted to infrom you etc....
I was then quite comfortable with opening it !

Hi Gemma,

Just thought I'd let you know that I have just had a letter from OASC telling me that I have been put in the October competition too. The letters states that the meeting will be held in late october, so I figure we have a few weeks to go yet.

Don't know if this helps - at least you don't have to worry about it arriving for the next week or two!

Anna you've made my day! (and I'm sure Rogues as well).

Assuming you're going for a ground branch then at least I've got an idea when the meeting is! We'll all have to keep each other posted nearer the time.

Thanks, and good luck :)

Thanks Rizzarazzu, I'll tell my Mum to do that - she's the one who's got to sit with the letter all day 'til i get home. She's very nervous, can't wait to know what's in it, but won't open it for me while I'm at work!
