Light Infantry
Jobag why do the parachute regiment have an extra battalion of infantry soldiers from another regiment? Its the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders at the mo and i think it was the Royal Irish Reg during the Gulf War II. But is it to introduce p coy to more soldiers that want to stay in there own regiment or is it to make 16 AA brig stronger infantrywise?
Would that be exactly the same role as the two Para Battalions in the Brigade... Helicopter Assault Troops (HATs
).
As for the Paras always being the first in, the Paras are going to have more shots at being Spearhead Lead Element what with having 3 out of the dozen or so Light Role battalions... I also believe that the last several times the Spearhead has been crashed out they've all been non-Para units.

So what sort of exciting stuff have you been up to lately, Jobag?
My lad had his 'issue' socks nicked this week.
It was you, wasn't it?![]()
Jayne.
As for what iv been up to...been at Brize norton for the last 3 weeks trying to get my 8 jumps in. We have done 5 so far, including a night jump with equipment (which was brillant by the way). We have no available aircraft for the whole of next week, so they gave us the week off, which you cant complain about! Especially when some of the lads had to go back to battalion to stag on the front gate

wasnt it the light infantry in an airborne role that actually captured pegasus bridge?
and then 7th para held it
i think the rest of the army is baised against the paras, especially the rest of the infantry, but some paras do little to help this because they think they are gods gift to soldeiring, to be fair though its drilled into them to act this way
my "staff" on pre para said "WHEN not IF you pass P company, you WILL wear you maroon and you WILL call the rest of your unit HATS and tell them to F**K OFF out your way"
ive passed all the tests now apart from 1 inividually, ive got my last chance to pass that one in a fortnight then im off to do P coy test week, and im determinned to do it and confident i will
and something else about doing P coy springs to mind which might explain the attitude of paras, its that F**king painfull that you sort of become angry at people who havent attempted it
one thing i have learned is its not all fitness, the ones who've jacked so far have been no unfitter than the ones who are still on the course, so banging on about airborne thinking they're better because they're fitter is wrong, so far its been about putting up with a huge ammount of pain and trying to look switched on and stand up straight after when im hanging out my arse, and facing my fear of heights and actually starting to enjoy the trainasium

cheers jobag
weve not been doing our pre-para at catterick, we've been at aldershot and pirbright on the all-arms
but we go down to catterick to do the test week mate
ive not actually found the log that difficult so far but ive not been on the front yet or running next to a short-arse, i know its the "airborne event" so its one i can pick up easy points on
i found the stretcher much more painfull, especially as i always seem to be taking the weight of a short-arse pulling the stretcher into his shoulder, ive learned to hate the words "prepare to change!" and hate even more "stand by go!"

no its the same, but weve been doing assualt course a few times and then a steeplechase on the beat-ups
the 5 test im on about are just the final test before p coy test week, this is just the last beat-up, but it will be test conditions
we do log and milling on P coy itself, which is a week long
but we cant do all the p coy events on saturday and sunday morning as im sure you'll understand
on P coy itself we do everything exactly the same except the 20 mile march
