American people need the worlds help! Hurricane Katrina
American people need the worlds help! Hurricane Katrina
I don't know if the world is aware of this but the Gulf Coast of the Southern United States was hit a few days ago by a very powerful category 4 Hurricane. The city of New Orleans is gone. 10 million people alone in that city have lost every thing. The entire area is flooded and under water, it is like a nuke went off but with no radiation. There is also intense damage throughout the rest of Louisiana and Mississippi. It will take several months before the extent of the damage is known because everything was destroyed. No rescue vehicles, no power, no nothing. People are starting to die of thirst and disease. We need help. Just do a Google search on Hurricane Katrina. Please petition your government. These people don’t need money they need water, medicine, rescue workers, and petrol. Thanks.
Yes, its all a terrible tragedy....HOWEVER
What these people need is for idiots to stop shooting at, and attacking the very people who are trying their very best to help.
What sort of mindlessness is that??
PS I refer to the following article.....

Shots disrupt US storm evacuation
The evacuation of stranded hurricane victims from New Orleans' Superdome stadium has been disrupted after shots were fired at a rescue helicopter.
A spokesman for the Louisiana ambulance service told the BBC the crowd had grown unruly and he was concerned for the safety of his staff.
He said a national guard had been shot, but he had not been seriously injured.
Looting and lawlessness have plagued the city in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, which struck on Monday.
A full evacuation has begun.
Air ambulance rescues from the stadium have been suspended, but able-bodied people are still being moved by bus.

Yes, those people are complete animals and should be dealt with in absolutle terms and that's part of the problem...we are all shaking our heads, but lots of poor innocent people need help.
The worlds economy is in danger people, this is an international crisis.
We need help. Think about, I'm an American, when was the last time an American said they needed any bodies help?

Americas supposedly the most powerful nation on earth why the hell should people give money to them? Its not like the boxing day Tsunami the Americans saw this coming and like with most other things the Americans ignored it. Its not like this is Mr Bushs number 1 priority it took him a while to cut his holiday from his permanent holiday to actually do something and the most he did was appear on CNN. Its quite ironic all the oil which theyve stolen from Iraq cant be used! Screw the Americans
Bush Can Rot in Hell for all I care this isn't about him!
It's about people who are dying and need help because everything is destroyed around them within hundreds of miles. I live in Florida and was hit by this Hurricane when it was just a category 1. It just popped up off our coast. People in my state are still with out power and water. I was with out power for 3 days my self. There is nothing you can do about a hurricane except leave. New Orleans and Mississippi are very poor states, New Orleans has a poverty rate of something like 40+%, these people simply could not afford to evacuate, they went to shelters, then the shelters were destroyed by the storm. How are you supposed to prepare for 145+mph sustained winds, 30 foot tidal surges and uncontorlable flooding? In Mississippi an entire casino's, huge buildings were picked up off there foudations and thrown hundreds of yards! If you've never experienced a Hurricane...it's the worst kind of storm, the damage done down there has been compared to the sunami by US senators who went overseas.
And as far as why you should care, think about it, do you believe the United States will be able to continue fighting in Iraq and rebuild one of it's most vital cities at the same time, 10 million people+ alone in New Orleans have to evacuated, that's not even talking about the rest of Louisiana and Mississippi, not to mention all the damage done in other states. 25% of The USA's oil refining came out of New Orleans. All those people, where are they going to live, their jobs gone...go ahead and don't care, but what happens to the United States economy will happen to your economy.

The reality is that priority is still Iraq. Okay? They are already attaching funding for military operations over there to disaster relief bills.Mustang_ wrote: do you believe the United States will be able to continue fighting in Iraq and rebuild one of it's most vital cities at the same time
It is an absolute tragedy, yes, and some saw it coming. I mean, look at Mike Parker, who was a Republican congressman in Mississipi and served as head of the Army Corps of Engineers from late 2001 to early 2002 before being canned for criticizing Bush administration budget cuts.
He had a couple of controversial (read expensive) water projects which could have reduced much of the flooding in that state.
I understand the intent and emotion of your posts, but we re-elected the president and even if we didn't vote for him, this one's on us. That may sound cold but sympathy is found in the dictionary between shit and syphilis.
I'll bet you a dollar that you'll see on the news within 48hrs that troops that were slotted for SW Asia are now going to be re-routed.Frank S. wrote:The reality is that priority is still Iraq. Okay? BTW...gas was reported to be $6.00 a gallon already in Atlanta, Ga by local media here in Florida...how long do you think people will stand for that?
Yes the disaster was preventable I imagine, but placing blame is not what's important right now. Getting the people out is, and we do need international help. What is the National Guard going to do? How are they going to get into flooded areas? What's going to happen when they start getting sick from the conditions? This is not a job for weekend warriors.
Hey whos the genius who built the city on the coast below sea level? Now thats just like building standard non earthquake proof housing in a earthquake prone area! Its non sensical. And one way of getting the people out of New Orleans is airlifting them, the US has the largest air force and naval air force in the world as well as having a huge naval fleet and on top of that you have the coastguard which im sure aint to far away so i dont think they need any help and if they do im sure the Canadians will help. Also perhaps you guys should start taking a bit of consideration for the enviroment otherwise shit like this is going to happen more often
Well...the French Built the city when it was their territory and we took it over during the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 and by that it was a major strategic and trading city, see War of 1812.flynn101 wrote:Hey whos the genius who built the city on the coast below sea level? Okay let me be blunt...our President is an idiot, remember the Kursk, the Russian sub that sunk in the North Sea that could have been saved by the British rescue divers if the Russians would have just let them but they dragged their feet untill it was to late, well...the USA has all those asset's but where are they? Obviously Bush is incapable of handling the situation. The American people need help. Not a lesson.
I aggree flynn, I feel for the poor and the helpless who didn't vote Bush
Mustang_ you say that the price of 'gas' (petrol for EU readers) has already inflated to $6.00 (£3.27) a gallon because of this disaster.
Now consider this though, in Great Britain we have to put up with paying $6.30 (£3.44) a gallon
and we haven't even had a disaster!
Perhaps if Mr. Bush didn't spend over a billion dollors a week in Iraq then you wouldn't be experiencing such delays in aid.
Just a thought

markd,
I think you'll find that we pay considerably more than £3.44 a gallon in the UK.
US gallons are different to UK gallons....3.78 liters per US one in comparison to 4.55 litres per UK one.
Taking this into account, I think you'll find that we pay £4.14 ($7.37 at current exchange rate) per UK gallon, although I admit that if we were able to buy US gallons at the pump we would be paying £3.44
Confused??????
