Regt Gunner Training, 18 or 21 weeks????

Hi there

I hope one of you can clarify this for me,

Is the Regt Gunner traing 18 weeks or 21 weeks, when hubby went to the careers place they said the traing was 18 weeks, but when reading through a lot of the info given to him as well as on the net, they mention 18 weeks and also 21 weeks

As he knows that this will probably be one of the questions asked in his interview,

Put in a call to the AFCO and ask them, no need to give a name or anything. That way you have the latest gen and if they say its wrong your husband has comeback

Its 18 weeks, there is a pre para course which is an added 3 wks but he wouldnt get straight onto it. He gets all the info i needs to from the afco anyway. Surely he should have found out the training before he goes even for the appitude test!! The pgac will give him an idea anyway.

The course is 21 weeks, pre-para has nothing to do with basics. The course was extended by 3 weeks this year and most of the leaflets have not been updated and the AFCO's aren't clued up.

If you can't find out before, ask when you get to the AFCO - it's unlikely the AFCO will think poorly of him for wanting to clarify the point before he goes into the interview.

ok, fair enough! i went on my pgac last year april 2004! i passed it but theres just no future in it. I did alot of training for it, but wasnt to sure at the end when i got offered a place. Instead i went in as a driver coz the afco told me that i could b a driver in the regiment, if i passed their fitness tests. The lying bastards, that trade doesnt exist.

I am unable to give you the definintive answer which I am certain you will be a bit miffed about. However, I will re-iterate what has been said before, hubby can ask at the AFCO before he goes in. There is no shame whatsoever in that.

Time for a reality check now and maybe this will put your and his mind at ease. I am an incredibly proud and loyal member of the RAF Regt yet it has to be said that the standards required/seen at the AFCO are not particularly high. No education is required, a fact which tells its own story. Your hubby is a bit older and wiser. No doubt he has seen more of life than most applicants. I am pretty certain he will be more articulate than most too.

Tell him from me not to get caught up in the minutiae. Get in there, give the questions the best go he can, just keep in mind what the requirements actually are. This may sound like I am slagging my mob off but I am not. We are a top lot who are more flexible than most other units ever hope to be.

I think the most important factor in his aplication and subsequent training will be ensuring he has nothing at home to worry about. He needs to square away all the finances, bills, car tax, insurances etc etc with you before he goes. This is not me being derogatory. I know a thing about this side of things as those who know my background will confirm. Make sure he has NOTHING to worry about whilst he is away cos the slightest little thing WILL turn a niggle into a big humungus thing.

To that end I am prepared to help this by offering you the complete sittingstress admin service whilst he is away. I will polish windows, cut grass, put up Christmas Trees and attend to any "other" routine maintenance that you require. Just let me know your address and I will pop round as soon as he steps foot into Honington!!

I think you do talk some crap. The Station Commanders duties comes under Station Ops. Your not even in the RAF. I dont really care to be honest. Stop giving advise to someone who has already been there, done that, got the t - shirt and the mug, the keyring and novelty pencil.

Certainly is an MT rep on a Rock sqn. Normally he is a cpl and is there not as a driver per se but as the poor sod who has to co-ordinate all the vehicle paperwork/servicing/licensing/FMT3(pile ups!!)/driver training. I wouldn't do it for all the tea in China. I was dicked at my unit here as MT rep for a fleet of 9 cars and it was horrendous-never again.

Imphal I do hate to get down to the venacular but you seem to be a bit of a full on goober. Please don't be ashamed of your job, there is no need to inflate your impotence (sp is correct ).

You hint at being in for less than 2 years therefore I am curious to see which t - shirt, mug, keyring and novelty pencil you have qualified for!!

As SS has said I would like to know what keyring / mug and other memorabilia you have aquired during your (at most) 10 months with the glorious service, now I would wager that they have come from the Benson NAFFI (or Spar if I remember correctly) / Ebay myself.
