IIRC the platoon orbat in all Light role battalions was changing to include an extra support section. So you'd have:

3x Rifle Section, each with:
2x Riflemen
2x UGL
2x Minimi
2x LSW

1x Support Section
Section Cmdr
2x GPMG (light role)
2 Riflemen (gunner no 2s)
Possibly a 51mm mortarman (although word is this is getting binned due to the UGL coming in) and a sharpshooter with an L96.

I thought this was how the Paras had been doing things on TELIC 1 as a trial and the rest of the light role battalions were going to adopt it over the next few years.
What do you know about surfing major, you're from god damn New Jersey

TUGG,

Press sarcasm button on the keyboard and read the following:

Of course ONLY the para regt will have a GPMG per section as they are the bestest and jo-gimp knows everything about everything.

Release the sarcasm button and adopt usual mode.

Our lot operate slightly differently in that the base section scale is:

2 x LSW (sharpshooters)
2 x minimi (LMG for proper title)
2 x IW
2 x IW + UGL

So 3 sections as listed above per Flight.

Our Fire Support Section uses the GPMG (2) and also has 2 sniper pairs in addition

The 51mm Mortar is getting phased out as all the remaining ammo has been procured by a certain bunch of green-lidded fellas. This makes me happy as lugging it is a pain! However, for now the 51mm stays with the Tac Sgt (Plt Sgt in pongo speak).

On top of this we have a fire support FLIGHT per Squadron. I am not too sure of the new scaling but the current rate is 4 x 81mm barrells and 4 x GPMG(SF) and some more sniper pairs. I am sorry about the inaccuracy regarding the totals.

Jo-Goober, magazines are used on the LMG purely in an emergency. The link is spread about the section and the reserve section of the Flight carries the total reserve. Yes it is a lot of link but soldiering ain't easy.

In summary the above is the start state however, depending on the task all that will be shifted around. The GPMGs can and have been slapped into a section if required. Flexibility is the key and all that!

Regards

ss

PS Tugg things don't change mate, about a billion light years ago I turned up on my Sqn and was greeted with the immortal words, "GPMG for you, SPROG!!!!".

I was having a pleasant discussion with someone until you came along. And there was me thinking, i was the person being accused of ruining threads :o

Thanks for the facts though, i feel less ignorant as i am now enlightened by teachings of non-reg personel. :)

...(sarcasm off, back to normal mode)
