I have been interested in joining the Royal Marines for some time now and hope to do so within the next year or two, but am wondering if my background will be a problem for serving Royal Marines. I am a Catholic from N. Ireland and we all know what people from my community have done to British forces here. I would be grateful for your views on this.

Your religion is not a problem, your place of birth is not a problem..... however, your profile 'Interests' indicate you are either into Chinese Cities, or, by the time you come (no pun intended) to join up, you will be blind, or have hairy palms. Either way, that will bar your entry into the Royal Marines!

I once put in a chit to relinquish my religion 'cos I decided for various reasons that all religion is a feed of arse and not worth bothering with.
The company Cdr at CTC said I would have to attend up to twenty lessons with the padre before they would take RC off my records. Needless to say I didn't bother as that was defeating the object, twats!!!!

One of our lads, a good salvationist, joined us for a trip to Hamburg... big boo boo!
When he returned to the UK he drank like a fish, smoked, swore, was in love with a prostitute and became a zehn budist. He was a really nice bloke before and after the trip and eventually married the girl... she was so down to earth and such a nice woman. She did the job out there to pay the bills because it paid so well.
I was going to go Rastafarian... sgt maj saw straight through it as a ruse.

There is no religion in the forces just likeminded individuals who join up and get on with their lives. You will get banter. you will get crap thrown at you,but everyone in the forces gets it and it is shrugged of as experience.
Go on join up and tell them Tam sent you.
