I'd suggest getting used to working from the facts

Do facts exist at all in any objective sense - what is the criterion of truth? Hard sciences have been troubled by the illusiveness of certainty and this is more so in the social sciences and the political arena.

Views come from a perspective and quite often an agenda. The notorious report from JSIC is a case in point - I have no special insight in the area but from day one it seemed like a load of bollocks to me - since found to be demonstrably so but its ultimate author was rewarded for his speculations. Many people have died as a result.

I found the above speculation informative and I wouldn't write it off as tosh. For the record, the perspective you'll get on political events in the forces will be largely irrelevant to attaining your military objectives and can hardly be said to be untainted with a particular agenda or desire for a particular outcome.

no one has mentioned the fact that these were home grown bombers, so how do we trackle this one? Like ive said before, the only way you are going to prevent this from happening is to work with the muslim community. These people were simply foot soldiers. They reckon about 20,000 people passed through the camps in Afghanistan - only a small number of these were trained as terrorists, the rest were simply trained to fire RPGs and Aks for Bosnia and Chechnya. The threat that we face is from those 'under the rader' - people with extremist views who dont let on what they think - remember, these people's own families didnt know what they were up to.

The only way you will prevent this is to stop these people from taking up extremists views, and kill those who do. In my opinion, anyone who openly voices there support for them should be classfied as terrorists themselves.

Extremists exist everywhere - some of my 'friends' are extreme thinking we should hit the middle east with our ICMBs ??!. Blaming muslims for the London bombings or 9/11 is as stupid as blaming catholics for june 1996 in
Manchester. For example, after 9/11 I was in so many kebab joints where the indian/pakistani owners where called 'taliban' by drunken brits.

What should we do to prevent any future attacks? I see terrorists who attack us like weeds - pulling the leaves (foot soliders) off doesn't work - we need to get to the roots and destroy them. Then we prevent regrowth through good gardening.

Have to say you make some excellent observations, though.

I teach in schools with predominantly Asian/Middle eastern pupils and parents/ older children are horrified by the crap which has been going on and petrified by the prospect of retaliation.

And the asshole was not a teacher ..... he was a Teaching Assistant. No disrespect meant to TAs ..... I work with plenty of 'em ..... but there is a world of difference.

My point is that established Islamic families in the inner city Manchester schools where I work are as distraught as we are.

what racism their has been has been mild at worst and no more than any ethnic group would get if they moved to another country(for example if i moved to saudi arabia or pakistan i would expect much worse)

the UK always has been a welcoming place, more so than many other comparable western nations

the racism and intolerance i see is muslim racism and muslim intolerance towards white brits of christian origin

the way the muslim community does things like getting christmas and pork banned from schools sickens me
