Request For Poetry
Afternoon all,
I have been liable to jot down a ditty every now and then, something my mother shall be held responsible for! I have read some good poetry by service personel and was wondering if there are any of you out there who have written a line or two and wish to share it? Anything about or inspired by times in the Forces. Also if you know of any published collections of such poetry I would be gratefull.
Regards, Benjo

A few books worth by him:-
Memoirs of an Infantry Officer
Sherston's Progress

A few books worth by him:-
Collected Poems of Wilfred Owen
Wilfred Owen: The Truth Untold

Two of my favourite poets. And one of my favourite poems is by Siegfried Sassoon.
Suicide in the Trenches
I knew a simple soldier boy
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.
In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain,
No-one spoke of him again.
You smug-faced cowards with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you’ll never know
The Hell where youth and laughter go.

i wrote this for a class a few years ago, about the fallen soldiers of WW2.
i dont know why they start wars, for the only result is the death of life,
for the sores you bare, you fight,
As i stand at the last hold of you i have, i think how you fought, and shed
your life giving blood, for the good of your country, you have brought hope to people, that you fought for the lives of,
As the bullet penetrates, you fall to the ground as a warrior, you are beyond life, yet you are a breath away from death, you close your eyes and head towards the gates, may you rest in peace, may your soul rest at least,
may your soul rest in peace for i know at least, you fought and shed your blood for the future, of which you have no picture you died in uncertainty, you are a true hero, not like the myths and legends, you are a warrior of profanity god bless your soul,
give me feed back chaps.

Some very good poems there people!
My mother is a poetry freak and she has been reading over my shoulder all morning.
You Poem about the WW2 soldiers falling is quite good Awalcott. Made me spare a thought or two towards those times. I hope it made an impression on the class because this current generation (to which I belong) seems all too keen not to think about it.
