'Bout Farking time a US President stood up to the IRA.
Kennedy,And his brother the Attorney General and to a lesser extent
Ronald Raygun and Clinton supported them.
A"War on Terror"Is just that.A war.It matters not wether it's Islamist or Catholic extremism.
Having typed that I guess I'm also an Extremist.

Well I guess what I'm asking is do you believe that the US will turn it's might against the IRA or is this just window dressing to improve relations with Britain over the GWOT?
I have a hard time conceiving of a situation where the US publicly puts boots on the ground in NI. Which ever president goes that route wouldn't be president much longer.

Most Americans outside of the Northeast treat the IRA as the murdering terrorists that they are.
At least Bush has done something right this time.
Clinton let him in.

The IRA will not be tolerated any longer as they are considered a"Terrorist Organisation"As to your inane enquiry that US Troops could be sent to NI.Two words.
Grow and Up
Oh well, I'm off to have a round of Irish Whiskey and a pint of Harp and Guiness.
Happy St. Pattys all.

I think at last it is hitting home to people that the IRA has gone from a terrorist organisation to a criminal one. They are group of people who obtained money for their Organisation during the troubles through threats and and through a National sort of loyalty, with the ending of the troubles the cash flowed slowed so it is now obtained through protection rackets and theft. With out any form of income some of these people would have to give up their very lavish life styles.
Its nothing to do with catholic extremism if you notice the IRA has murdered more Catholics than any body else.wholley wrote:'Bout Farking time a US President stood up to the IRA.

The IRA are paracites and murderers and criminals and liars and have nothing to offer society.
Put a bullet in his head. Maybe the IRA will implode in on itself and start an internal feud and this will lead to timely demise.
FAR AWAY SO CLOSE!
The IRA are fragmenting now anyway, the command structure they have is mainly based on the support of the most strong minded individual - hence Mr McGuiness at the top at present.
The structure is also based on "cells" as most of you know and many of these people are unaware of another local area cells movements. Although well trained in some areas the hardcore who believed in ongoing war are now ranked with the RIRA who in turn count many INLA members among the ranks.
I live in a town where as an Englishman I keep my head down, the local players own alot of large properties and appear as respected businessman but its a front. My Father in Law is a catholic and during the early 80's he owned a plastering company. He was awarded a contract to plaster the town's courthouse, he was about to start the job and had invested in alot of materials to start up. 2 days in he was paid a visit by the local boyos. My wife remembers clearly how it felt when they stood over her father and the family and explained what would happen if he continued to work for the brits. Later that evening they came back again and had an offer for him, pay them 80% of the profits on a weekly basis and he could work away as normal. Clearly not an option as margins were not fat enough. When this was explained he was told that in that case he should give over control of the job to a local builder.
Criminal commerce yes, gangsters yes, these men continue to terrorise poorer areas where fear is key. They take a cut of peoples benefits with one hand and appear as Sinn Fein in the local papers rebuilding burnt out homes for the same people.
My point is they dont give a crap about a "united Ireland" or the people in it. Its about money and power.
I defended my young son from a vicious dog a while back and was told by its owner that he would "shoot me to f@#k" if I ever pissed him off again. He is now a Sinn Fein election worker in the local office and he also drives a 2004 Mercedes and does not work anywhere else. Considering what the IRA did to a man who was formerly of its ranks in Belfast recently I believe that the individual that threatened me is entirely capable of harming me.
I plan to move with my family to a more neutral area in the coming year or so as I feel that the local police would not be able to help me if I was threatened again.
The most worrying part of it all is what are the vicious thugs from the ranks going to do for a job now or are they already doing it?
Apart from that NI is actually not a bad place to live, most people are lovely and would do anything for you.

Yea, and what about the other terrorist organisations in N.Ire such as UDA, UVF who are just as bad as the IRA only not as profesional and not as large, It amazes me how they never seem to get mentioned when there out killing and fighting amongst themselves which they do.
Disband them all.

Blair is being nice to Adams just so there are no bombings in London on his watch.

I will of course abrogate my opinion to those better informed than I.
