Recently I have noticed lots of Regiment ads in magazines and on TV. Also in Nuts magazine some editors were in Belize with the Rocks for a week and the editor from Zoo did PGAC. While this is good as it will hopefully increase the man power it will probably attract the wrong type of person. The Regiment is 60+ years old and only now is it in the media. Some types may think it is a way of impressing girls back home.
What are other peoples' views on this?

the Rocks are advertising everywear coz they are the only trade in the RAF that they have priority recruting on! ie they need all the people they can get! and then pgac will take care of all the t***s who decided to join whilst leggless!
Im trying to join at the minuet, how did nuts or whoever do at pgac? Did they see any ghosts in the woods at burnham?
dispite there new found fame its still a pain in the undercarige to find good info on the diffrent sqdns, I need to swat up for my interviews! Any suggestions?

A good example of why the RAF Regt needs to advertise occured several years ago when OP VERITAS was kicking off in Afghanistan. Several newspapers displayed pictures of Regt personnel (obvious from the berets!) with the description "Royal Marines".
Outside of the RAF community (and the Suffolk area) very few people even realise that the RAF has a ground combat unit - and, therefore, go straight to the Army or RM to apply.
The aim of advertising for the Regt is to increase the overall numbers of people who apply - thus enabling the RAF to chose the best people from a wider pool of talent. Providing recruitment standards are maintained (which they are), it doesn't matter where the adverts are placed - as long as they attract more applications from eligible guys.

Aye
I think its good that the Regt are getting some advertising done. Im currently out in Iraq serving with 34 Sqdn but us and the lads think its a right cheesy advert in the mags. An island shaped like an IW?! I think the Royal Marines got it right with the black and white pain adverts. Something along those lines would maybe attract a better group of people. I suppose cheesy advertising is better than no advertising
I've seen the Nuts article/advert and its rather good to be honest. Prob seems better for me cos I was actually there but it gives the impression of soldiering
Aint seen the article in FHM yet... anyone be kind enough to post it on here for me
