Hi, thank you for that info. I'm going for a trade - Steward. Now same as you, the two sergents who I have dealt with so far were extremely friendly and seemed to take to me quite well. I'm always myself in interviews and I usually get on well with the interview-er.
I'm a little worried though as, I have tried getting more and more info on my chosen trade, but I haven't came across all that much. I have the basic info sheet that you get from your AFCO and I've found out little bits and pieces, then there's the stuff on that RAF careers website. There's still a few things I don't know, like how long my trade training is? basic pay? What happens with promotion etc? Then there's other things about basic training I don't know!!!
I'm probably getting myself all worked up for nothing here, but I've waited soooooooooo long already and I want it soooooooo much!! lol Its making me REALLY nervous at the thought that they can just turn around now, or anytime and say "thanks, but no thanks"

Stewards typically work within either the Officers' or Sergeants' Messes, performing a mixture of Silver Service, Administration and Bar Work. This will include VIP and Royal Visits to the Station.
They are also employed in a tactical role, deploying on operations where they support the field catering function. With more experience, they can progress to 'Air Steward' working aboard the Air Transport Fleet (VC10, Tristar and Royal Flights).
As your career progresses, with promotion, you will develop managerial skills and may eventually find yourself as a 'Mess Manager' (equivalent to being a hotel manager - with the associated qualifications).
Basic Training takes place at RAF Halton (approx 6 months) and you get paid the same as any other airman! When you go to RTS you are an AC (aircraftsman). After 26 weeks you are promoted to LAC (Leading Aircraftsman). A minimum of 1 year after you finish your training course you will undertake your TAT 1 (Trade Ability Test). IF you pass, you get promoted to SAC (Senior Aircraftsman). Further promotion to Corporal, Sergeant, Flight Sergeant and Warrant Officer is by competition (they promote the best!).
