I just started running again. Not done any since like september last year lol! anyway ran 4.2 miles in 30 mins. So not bad since I not done any for ages now, must have been bcoz I used to run on hills all the time maybe. The .2 of a mile is bcoz i run a route which ended in start place heh and it just works out like that. Think im gonna do a build up programme with runs on Mon, Wed and Fri and circuit on Tues, Thurs and Sat. Just body weight stuff right now for first 2 weeks to get back into things. Think I should be seeing about doing selection in summer after uni is over.

Ive just started running again but im only doing it steadily and im not worried about my timing at the moment. A couple of weeks and then ill try and run each mile in 7minutes, and then get it down to 6minute miles in a couple of months.

On the acquaintance day I went on I felt good for the first 1.5mile in a group and then the first 750m of individual time, but then I lost all the strength in my legs on the return and slowed right down to almost a walk. I didnt do too well on the bleep test either. I never get a stitch or feel sick, so I blame it on my leg muslces (ive done f@#k all running for months) so im going to build them up a bit at the gym and get plenty of upper body work in too.

Im not after super fitness at the moment, but I just want to get my PRMC done so I can start ASAP. Ovcourse im not going to attempt it if I dont feel up to scratch.

I had mine not long ago, you might have the same guy as I did (im form nott's also) Mr Turner was his name :) Its pretty stright forward, just make sure you know the badge, the major battles and about the prmc and training course and the rest is just personal stuff, what teams, clubs you have been in, school, work, family etc.

Where in Nott'm you from anyway Sandz, Im from Clifton.

just do intervals, burpees, squat thrusts, hill/grid sprints, fartlek and your normall running. Thats a few diff things to help build you and yoru legs up for running.

Just make sure you know everything in the green booklet to be honest, and the name of the 3 ships the Royal Marines use, HMS Ocean, Balwark, Albion, what they do. Also many Victoria cross winners the marines have (local to us its the last guy in the green booklet, he lives near nottingham I think or did, Corporal Thomas Peck Hunter)

I've got my prmc on the 14th-17th of March.

Hey all, just got back from my interview which i FAILED :( couldnt believe it, interview went great but i failed on FITNESS and lack of knowledge of the corps Grrr where as i thought i knew enough! ( obvisouly not ). I told the major in my interview that im currently at: (21 min 8 secs for my 3MILE run) and (10 mins 3 secs for my 1.5 MILE RUN ON TRED MILL). he then said they arnt quite good enough. i should be aiming at 8.15 - 9.45 for the 1.5 mile.
He said he's giving me 3 months to get my fitness level up and know a little more on what the 32 weeks training entales as well as what happens after etc. . .

His reccomendations: Mon, Tues, Wed and Thurs ( 20 min hard warm up then upper boddy exercises then 3 mile TIMED run.

Fri: Swimming in breaststroke only for as long as poss and then each week to add 2 lengths.

Sat: 5 mile run steady pace ( NOT TIMED ) then upper body exercises.
Sun: DAY OF REST.

Also every 2 weeks to do the V02 Bleep Test.

Lol, so starting from tommorow ill be going for it, gunna be a killer mind :(.

He sed he could of put me in for my prmc but theres a 50/50 chance of success so its for my benefit, also wants me to keep in touch and let him know every fortnight :S which i found strange.

Any comments?

Dont worry about it, atleast he is helping you with fitness and he is probably right about it to. I went on RMR selection with 1 weeks training and beleive me it was hardest thing in my life and selection proceures are the same. I got in though, which was lucky really. I woudl def get your timings down to what he mentioned b4 trying again. It will give you the best chance

I could run 1.5miles on the treadmil in 7.29. Those days are long gone though, its a total different ball game running outdoors.

Hill sprints, hard cycles, intervals, running in the hills, firemans carry;s up hills. They all help with running and power in legs. Try them out sometime. But if you stick to Majors programme im sure you will be fine. good luck
