Lifestyle gyms are just the cheap, shit ones dotted around Liverpool. I use them from time to time when ive got a few hours to kill. Used to go to David Lloyds myself.

Loads of people i know rate them but the nearest one to me is in the city centre in the Printworks. To much of a treck to run on a treadmil and the fact its in the same building as about 20 Bars is to much temptation.

Within 10 minutes of my house there's a bannatynes, LA Fitness and a host of council facilities.... I still prefer the nice bouncy/muddy chip wood laid track up through the woods past the local aliens landed there in the sixties spot, past the council tip, the bananananana packing factory and back over the local hill. :x

I aint paying 30 squid a month to want to punch smarmy lycra clad tossers and trim but dim birds lolling about trying to look good. :x

*%&* off get muddy, fresh air and use your brain to motivate yourself to better fitness. wish i was 22 again. I could do what i just said then!!!

There are few gyms by mine. But they are either shit Lifestyle ones with the ridicuously cold pools and no breathing space, or sted head ones next to dodgy pubs. £52 at David Lloyds wasn't worth it, at least on my salary - all the other members were fat, rich businessmen and thier wives and kids. LA fitness seemed ok when I went to my PJFT, but its a hike from mine.

My local parks good between 6am and 5pm. After that you will either get ran over by a quad or high while running through it.

I use a David Lloyd gym. It's pretty expensive but I do use it a lot. It's especially useful when I've got an injury & can't go running outside as I normally would. It's also useful for my 1 day of weight training a week - I haven't got the space or equipment to do the same thing at home.

However, if you only trained in a gym I think it wouldn't really prepare you properly for Service life. As many people have said, there's no substitute for going out & doing a good run around the hills in the pissing rain.

I'm off to the Lake District today for a spot of winter mountaineering (provided there's snow up there). And I've got 'flu :) Should be interesting :o

saturday and sunday mornings along my track you get a handy free training aid in the form of lots of mental dogs not being controlled properly.

It's a fair inducement to better timings and quality fartlekking!

Ibought a map of the local cycle paths and couldn't believe it, theres litteraly hundreds of miles of paths in my town and not many cyclists.. I bought it to figure out a route to my work, i was going to (should get that as my epitaph..! ) start running to work, but at 7 in the morning i just can't be arsed.

I live virtually on the edge of Liverpool so ive got quite a bit of countryside a couple of ks from my house, which is ideal for running in the long, warm summer days.

I find it hard to run on them simply because i get bored looking at a blank wall or tv screen. Running outdoors is far better and greatly improves your fitness level compared to just rinning on a treadmill. I went the gym last year for about 8 months and just trained on treadmill for about 30mins a day with ease, but when i finally had to run outdoors i lasted about 10mins!!

I used to train on a treadmill. There Rubbish!

I only started to train outside about 3 months ago, now I could run far more than I could when on the treadmill as they give me shin splints.

Also I've got a 4 mile long beach about 2mins from my house so I think I'd rather run there.

I had what i thought was a really good 5 mile route untill today, 3 miles of it is soil but on days after rain or snow its so wet its a 3 mile mud run, problem is it runs right next to a steep fall which leads to a brooke, so if you slip its hello Mr leg cast
