quite a lot of info on these two on the forum - the search function should bring up what you're looking for.
Any serving soldier/sailor/airman can attempt selection for either.
If you know quite a bit about the SAS then you'll know about the UK Special Forces Selection Course.
SBS is part, well at least used to be part of 3 Commando Brigade RM. It's becoming more and more detatched as some of the older lot will explain - sneaky has a particular bone with this.

I don't know - check the search and also have a look at google, i'll just offer an educated guess and that's not worth the time it takes to write it.
Also, Duncan Falconer "First into Action" or something similar is a good read and will give you a look at the old SBS when it had it's own selection course and various other practices (70's, 80's and 90's)
good luck

Generally you apply and wait for the invitation. Make sure you are fit and ready when applying, you may only get short notice.can u attempt the Selection Course or do u have to be Selected ?
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

Yes you can apply for SF Training. I would say that you should get a couple of years with a regular unit under your belt first..
After applying for SF training, you will go onto the Joint SF Training Selection. You may pass. After which you can then decide to join the SAS or the SBS.
It doesn't seem to matter these days, which you join. Both seem to be doing the same job.
I'm being cynical again.

						thanks for the info,
but could someone please explain to me what the SAS/SBS do on a weekly basis? Are they just like the Armed Forces, do exercises every so often and just train, or are they involved in a special kinds of Exercises?
Thanks !

Let me try to explain.
If you should be good enough to reach the exalted rank of a Special Forces operator, you will either be training - or on Ops.
You may be SAS or SBS. It doesn't seem to matter at the moment.
Whatever, you will be on an intensive course of training and if you are not, you will be on Ops.
SF work does not leave much time for R & R.

						ok.
Special Boat Service is open to Royal Marine Commandos only. You do the same selection as the SAS, but miss out the jungle phase. which is why the SAS hate the SBS and call them unproffessional. But they are not hihgly train in CQC but say they are exceptional swimmers and divers. If you look in the green bible then near the end you will see that swimmer canoeists is one of the options and specialisations. You need 3 years experience though.
last i heard and read was that the SAS is open to anyone in the military. Army, navy, marines, and RAF.
All i can guess is that on a weekly basis is that the SAS will be in hereford in the killing house all day shooting thousands of rounds and blowing windows and doors up. surely youve seen the iranian embassy siege. probably pratice other assault techniques like landing on a bus from a chopper etc. cool stuff
The SBS apparently dont do as much trainign and CQC stuff like the SAS. but maily train on sub insertions, canoeing and swimming.
this is problably all bollocks though, as the only way your gonna find out is to either join, or of attempted selection
