New Zealander in the RM's

Post by ace_compton »

ok guys...heres the deal.
Im from New Zealand, and im in NZ now, I want to join the military, but the NZ defence force is a joke (we dont even have any fixed wing attack planes in our airforce!?) so I though about joining the French Foreign Legion, I have reaseached joining them, and they seem too dis-organised and who wants to serve the french?.
What im hoping to find out is a citizen of the commonwealth allowed to join the Royal Marines, I have e-mailed and mailed the recuiters in 4 different cities about 2 months ago, and not one of them has got back to me.
Do any of you fine gentlemen know any info regarding to this? or have any of you served with a foreigner in the RM's?

I hope someone out there in the inter-web can help me.

respectfully

Hey mate,
There's been a few lads on here asking the same thing, including myself a couple of years ago, and the answer is a most definate YES, commonwealth citizens can indeed join the British forces. Although they cannot join as officers, unless of course you have dual British citizenship.
Feel free to post anymore questions you have.
Josh.

cheers guys,
isnt there a criteria that you have to live in the UK for 5 years?
because 5 years is too long for me to wait.
I have to say though, the Royal Marines are looking better and better to me everyday.

They wave the five year rule for people from Australia, NZ, South Africa and Canada. Trust me, I did it myself earlier this year, so you have no problem in that regard.
Cheers mate,
Josh.
