Just thought id say hi to everyone here as ive been reading your posts for quite a while now and decided i should register so i can write some of my own. Firstly id like to say how helpful this forum has been, any questions that i did have about joining the Royal Marines have been answered whilst reading the hundreds of different topics. At the moment im studying an engineering degree at Preston uni and am hoping to join the Royal Marines as soon as my last exam has finished in May 2006. It might seem like a while to go but considering that ive only started seriously training it doesnt seem too bad. A question id like to ask about joining is when would be the best time to go down to my local carreers office to get the ball rolling cos i know it can take a while to get through the system and like i said id like to go in as soon as ive finished uni. Any advise would be great. Cheers
Hi mate,
Welcome to the forums
Regarding your query, I can only go by my experiences (as it will vary depending on time of year/how busy they are etc etc)...
For me, the Written Tests, Interview, Medical and PJFT took 7 weeks (from the day I walked into the careers office). Also, you have to remember that sometimes it may take a while for you to be security cleared (it was quick for me as I was in the TA before).
So saying that, I'd start to apply about 2 or 3 months before you leave....that way you can get the things out the way (you can always put off your c@#t you leave).
Thing to remember though mate, if you are due to be sitting exams, do you want the pressures on top of worrying about your interview, medical etc etc?
Hope some of this helps mate

Welcome to the boards Sammy
I would go down to the Afco a.s.a.p so you can and get as much info as you can also they will let you watch a couple of recruitment videos.
With regards to actually applying, i would say Jan/Feb 06 so that you can get your interviews and tests out the way before your exams. That leaves you with 6 months from passing your tests to actually do your PRMC.
Personally i applied in May and sat my PRMC in September but it can vary all the time.
Anyway welcome and goodluck with the training

I'm thinking about doing the same thing as you and the way i'd do it is use the Summer holidays next year to peak your fitness and do the PRMC at the end just before you go back to Uni (apparently a PRMC Pass lasts one year). You will be able focus on your final year and keep your fitness up in your spare time without having to worry about the pre-Basic training recruitment process. This way also you can walk straight into a Recruit troop asap after your exams.
Good luck mate.

Thanks a lot for all of the replies. Think the best option would be to do what Gunn said and do all of the written test asoon as possible so i can get myself on the records and then i can do the PRMC closer to the time. Might just go down to the local careers office and see if they think this is the best option. Regarding my exams in my final year, i have none, my final year is all coursework so i will not have the pressures of doing revision and training at the same time.
