Just received my copy of Professional Engineering(journal of the institute of mechanical engineers) and looked at the vacancies page. Lo and behold there is an advertisement for the RAF wanting Engineering Officers !.
Nothing wrong with that you may say, but when you are stuck in the quagmire of RAFC Cranwell trying to get a place for an engineering officer and they tell you that you have not made the latest sift because there were not enough vacancies then it gets a bit tedious, not to mention frustrating.
Why can't the RAF be professional and honest. Why not say to people, look we don't have any vacancies until 'x' but you are good enough and you will get a place then. Instead, they are keeping people hanging around for many months and people are walking away from this situation for that very reason.
I understand the current situation with the cutbacks and that serving personnel are having similar problems. However, the RAF prides itself on attracting the best recruits therefore is it not right that they treat them with the resepct they deserve ?.
