basically, the Royal Marines are the Royal Navys own soldiers. they are britains only amphibious (water bourne) experts. they are also britains arctic specialists.

they are about 7000 strong, and are fully selfsufficient. if a marine needs something a marine will deliver it, build it blow it up,patch him up. they are also backed up by regular soldiers from all 3 other arms of the british forces who haev also completed the commando course. this means that every 1 has done the same course in how marines work/do things, and know how marines opperate.

as kipling says" a soldier and a sailor too"

they are also very adaptable chaps.

I know a really good word, and its something that you need to have if you want to attempt to be a Royal Marine.
The word?????? INITIATIVE

Suggest you get yourself some of the above and do a search before you trip out any more bone questions

This is the point i dont know if i want to be a marine thats why im asking people here because i thought there might be people here in the know....

Correct me if im wrong but i thought thats what this forum was for. I've searched for these answers but no website can tell it exactly like someone who has been through it and maybe by asking here i will get a few different viewpoints which will help me make a better informed decision

Well Chaos ..... I am really not sure you're up to it, but if you typed 'Royal Marines' into a search engine, Google for example, you will be overwhelmed !

Try

http://www.civvie-street.co.uk/

and Royal Marines in the left hand margin and you might decide otherwise !

a tip for kaos.

if you go to the recruiting rm office, you will be asked to tell the recruiting officer about the marines.

p.s. the library was a good start when i was a sprog. not all this new fangled technology.

I think the basic difference is - that the ROYAL Marines wash and the others - (Percy Pongoes) don't.!! (Please note the ROYAL!)
If you have to think about it - do as Artist says, - join the Army!!, because you won't make the Royal Marines.
