Ovcourse they should be allowed citizenship! If they are prepared to help defend our independance then they deserve to experience it themselves.
Providing a service to the country in the armed forces ranks alongside providing needed skills and expertise. The only people who shold be allowed to live in the UK are those who benefit it.

Im not one of those conservative/nationalist c@#t who believe that immigrants are the cause of all our worries. If anything immigrants actually contribute to our economy. However, with all the illegal immigrants and benefit seekers entering the country virtually unopposed, it is remarkable that our government decides to block those who truly deserve and who have earned all respect.

I doubt that standards would drop as the selection process is very tough and the Ghurka regiment is one of the most dedicated and skillful in our forces. Most decide to join because the wages they recieve are far greater than the average Napalese wages, and standards have continued to be very high.

Our country can not simply use foreigners to defend our country and then throw them back to where they came from. Anyway, not all Napalese Ghurkas apply for citizenship.

I read somewhere that the second biggest money earner for Nepal is the Pensions issued to ex Brit Army Gurkas who have returned home.

As for them being granted Citizenship. Have to say yes.

I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking to
quite a few members of the Gurkha Reg. and when
people talk about loyalty to the crown even many
of our own population do not hold the same respect
to the crown as they do. even to this day and age
they are in the front line, but nobody mentions them.

When this goverment can allow assylum seakers more
privileges than our selves ( and I am NOT predudice)
I say yes to the Gurkhas

Aye

I say YES.

Old treaties should be re-examined, and sorted out.

The amount of people that find their way into this country to simple sap off our money is ridiculous.

The least we could do for these hard working, loyal, and truly honourable soldiers is to offer them citizenship. It should be their right, and privilege to become British citizens.

And with regards to the "border police" idea - excellent! I doubt anyone would want to challenge Gurkhas :o

One of my dad's mates fought alongside the Gurkhas in the Falklands conflict, and he says they are the most determined and professional men he's ever worked with 8)

I was invited into a Gurkha's home in the New Territories [Hong Kong] and I thought at the time there were being hard done to [very basic furniture etc] But I was told they thought they were in luxury.
I am now friends with one who lives here, so I must ask him the next he visits the river I fish, how he arrived here.
Incidently it is quite amusing hearing a Gurkha speak in "Jockinees".
Great wee man.

They now can be allowed to setlle in UK, see here.
Not all are allowed to though, only those that left the Army after 1997, lets hope it gets sorted out soon for those that left before then too, they deserve it.
Mr Blair said: "The Gurkhas have served this country with great skill, courage and dignity during some of the most testing times in our history. They have made an enormous contribution not just to our armed forces but to the life of this country, and it is important their commitment and sacrifice is recognised."
About time.

Great News ref them being allowed to live in the UK.

It's just a shame B'liar and his gits (Sorry Government.....naw! Their Gits) have once more done the dirty ref dates and stuff.

Excellent Soldiers and Excellent Gentlemen. Just never take up their offer of a Curry! (It took me Yonks before I could taste or smell anything and I swear me eye's bled for two whole days. Honest!)

Of course they should be allowed citizenship.! Most Gurkha's spend more than a few years with them. It is a lifestyle. I spent 6 months in the jungles of Borneo with them, and a nicer, gentler (apart from battle conditions.!), more disciplined force, you will not meet. Even the Royal Marines.!
