Para Olympics

Post by Mike »

I’m sure that there are many of us who have been enthralled by the courage and determination of all the participants of the Para Olympic games....
As every bit as wonderful as the Olympics themselves, to be honest I think that these games go further to show the true Olympic spirit.
I cant get over the dogged determination of all those who have conquered adversity in almost every way.
I feel very humble when I see what these athletes are able to do.

One tad feeling of remorse though.......
A BBC commentator, in an off the cuff remark, stated that the Wonderful US of A.... had not one broadcasting unit covering these Para Games...where as for, the Olympics there had been a media circus covering the event.

Shame on you America....had some of you been watching this marvelous sceptical you may have just learn the true meaning of the word HUMILITY

Mike,
sorry bud but the BBC commentator was wrong about US
coverage(No suprise there)I watched some of it and agree entirely with you regarding their courage and spirit.
Don't want to bore everyone with the number of channels that had
teams there, but I would imagine the BBC commentator must have been David Coleman, who thinks the only true"Broadcasting"station in the universe is the BBC.He never really got the hang of cable or sattelite.

Of course

I haven't seen much so far but I saw a few swimming races where we picked up a few medals including 2 golds. I was sad to read that Simon Jackson's hopes of fifth straight medal in Judo were ended by a controversial defeat on Sunday. But over all I think we are looking on top to gain more medals then we did 4 years ago.

GO TEAM GB :)

This is the link to a member of the US team's site. She suffers from the same condition as Cameron (my son) and really does give you so much hope and inspiration to see what she has been able to achieve in her life.

The Para Olympic event is far more enjoyable and superior than the Olympics.
Seeing how hard these truely spirited people trained for this event despite their hindrances puts me to shame with my limited sporting activities.

After watching the para olympics (only on a couple of occasions) I felt a bit sad at the lack of spectators in the stands, wouldnt it be a good idea to combine both the able bodied with the para olympiads, it may help alleviate a lot of bounderies, and the olympiads would get the support they so richly deserve.
