Shaving

Post by Tunny »

Just wondering if any of you could share your wisdom...

I take it that during basic you have to shave every day, and that its got to be a very close shave so when you touch it you wont feel the slightest spike? Well, the only way i can achieve this is by shaving against the grain. i can get it as smooth as a babies bum but the only problem is i get a terrible shaving rash, especially on my neck. When i shave the next day it irritates it even more, even with new blades. It's obvious i have the skin of a poof. I don't mind having to shave, i'm just wondering if any of you have had the same problem and know how to get around it?

cheers :)

I'm guessing your a bloke tunny?, you've got to check nowadays..

I had the same problem, being an idle fart, I'd go days without shaving ; suddenly having to shave everyday was a bit of shock for the old epidermus, I looked like puberty had hit all over again. Then shaved using oil instead of foam and, presto, skin so soft my S10 slips off my face!

Im 19 and only have to shave around the goatee area and neck as the rest is still bum fluff and i used to get really bad spots on my neck like you say.

Go to boots the chemist or another chemist and you can buy king of shaves alpha formula shaving oil. It cost about £3 a bottle (bout thumb sized) and its the bees knees. No spots no rash, its great.

When you get to basic, you MUST shave every single morning. It is very important, and you WILL get the necessary punishment if you do not. One reason they give, been that if you have stubble, it may imperfect the seal which would otherwise be, around your resperator.

The same goes for when out on exercise in the field. They will still check that you have shaved.

You will see NCO's and CO's with mushtashes, and this will not really affect resperators, however as a recruit, forget it. Also side burns, get rid of them. You may get away with short side burns however.

I use a Mach 3 shaver, which is as good as any, does the job. If you are like me and have facial hair that grows quick, you'll have to put up with shaving sometimes twice a day. If you find you cut yourself alot, or get rashes, consider buying a shaving foam/gell for sensitive skin, or even a skin moisturiser.

Tunny, best thing is to see your doc, either prior to joining up, or if already in, the service doc, ask him if you can go on an HRT course, it has a couple of side effects, but nothing to write home about, i think you`ll find this would help your case a lot. i too suffer from a rash, so see the doc,Good luck

I also suffer from shaving rash, I tried everything except king of shaves.

I found that using a shaving brush and a bar of dove soap to get a good lather helped no end.

You can also wash your face at the same time, it cuts grooming time in half
