Any thing that you do to get your self as fit as possible will help. Remember that the first couple of weeks can be tough to adjust to your new life style, so before thinking of packing it in, give your self time to adjust.

I know i will feel homesick at one point or another, and thats the number 1 reason why people leave but i have already got it in my head that its only a feeling and if i stick it just think of the places where i could be based abroad and the fact my dad and grandad will be watching me passing out.

If you can get into the boxing club...increase your anerobic and aerobic thresholds (eg both sprint training and endurance running) and do a lot of pressup and situps etc...The thing I have been taught the most (throught my VERY army family) is to do the best you possibly can...Even if you think something isn't improtant during basic do it anyway...do everythiung possible, help out your mates but be yourself. If you really want it you will find the motivation to come out on top...Just keep thinking about the goal on march-out parade and yopu receiving the top student award...you know it woulkd be worth the extra couple of hours   8) Basically just work you're absolute hardest, don't compromise on ANYTHING

Cheers,. Gareth
(sorry if thats all gobbeldy gook..it has been the best sunday I have had in a long ,long time :D )

I'm glad all you lucky gits live near lamp posts and street areas...I live in the middle of nowhere, in a small village. My runs have to be done across 2 types of terrain..light wooded and fields, 90% on a uphill cline! not far from the pennines! so the weather plays nice too!

Think yourself lucky in a way mate. I grew up and lived in the exact same type of area - middle of nowhere, hills everywhere, no street lamps or anything. Obviously we cant run at night, but its good training to run on grass/field/tracks as tests you more, and you dont always have the same buildings too look at all the time like in an urban area. Training in this type of terrain got me into the Army, so hopefully, you can adapt your training too suit. Good Luck.

Try and measure yourself out a course that is a mile and a half long and beast it about once a week. Time yourself and try and get it down to about 9 minutes flat. If your running 1 1/2 miles in 9 minutes you shouldnt struggle with any of the fitness. That is unless your doing something silly like joining the paras.

I would beast out a 2.5km run for test reasons but is that really enough? I run 3-4 times a week running for 20-30mins to see how far I can run in that time! Not going silly and then at the end of the week, I run 2.5km best effort!

I Know the difference between needing to stop and wanting to stop! I'm hoping I have what it takes, I feel my minds totally up for it!

I'm resting off my shin splints at the moment, which isn't helping my goals at all. I got a really smart idea to walk over the moors with a 30lb rucksack...That wasn't so bad but I did it the next day because I enjoyed it so much. Then the next day I ran with the same weight on my 2.5km run, just for fun and to see how I would handle it! seemed to be fine...ran for 8mins the day after having to stop in agony with stiff and sore shins!

The Sgt in the RO told me your body needs the time to rest and build just as much as you need to use it! I've learnt my lesson the hard way, don't go thinking your going to get fit by doing as much excerise as possible...Do what your body can take, help it build not recover!

I'm hoping now I can recover in time to be able to perform 100% effectively when I get to the RSC. I can't stand being stuck behind a bar serving drunks any longer!
:( :( :(   anythings better than that!

Well I suppose doing the odd bit of pt will help but your going to get pretty damn fit during training anyway. I'd suggest you calm down and relax a bit until you have to report, as you'll not have much time for yourself once the bullshit starts. Get your head together and stay level headed. There's no point beasting your arse off and finding your in no fit state for basic. Lots of people forget that the body needs plenty of rest to re-build itself.
I would prescribe plenty of lager with a dash of shagging any loose women within range.
