Can anyone shed any light on these dudes?

I know that they're TA and their website implys that they are quasi-SF.

I've got a couple of friends who were trying to join them last time a spoke to them, but I haven't spoken to them in ages so I don't know how they got on with the "Patrol Squadron Training". I know that they are organised into "Sabre Squadrons" and have (maybe) instructors form 22 SAS. I have also heard, however, that they are merely "TA for City boys".

Can anyone chip in? How tough is the selection/training? Are they really as SF-ish as they seem to make themselves out ot be?

Are they a bunch of champagne-charlie toffs?

Do they have a serious operational role?

They are a bunch of tossers who strut about the Kings Rd with their Guards berets on. I had a mate who had a two year posting teaching em to put their webbing together he used to scam em out money for old bits of kit.

do you a favour?

really dont have a clue do you?

Why dont you post about stuff you may have a bit of knowledge about and stop spouting off about units you clearly know nothing about?

judging by your other posts, i'm surprised you have time to be on these boards at all? shouldnt you be in the pub telling all your groupies how much you know about every other unit in the world?

A good friend of mine did a year with them for a gap year between college and uni.

Also purly by coinsidence, my great grandfather was there RSM during ww2. He was wounded at el alamaine (I think thats how its spelt).

These days they are T.A most of there instructors are ex-para or ex-marine. There role is one of forward observation, they yell the rest of the RA shell, like hell, 24 hr dayly! They do have an SF link. one of the sqdns are trained to penertrate into enemy teratory, then call in fire missions!

A lot of HAC guys get recommended to 21 or 23.
