Problem as I see it is the US state Dept.
refuses to let private contractors defend themselves.
Same with the British.
I was offered a contract in Iraq,good money but,if I cannot take a firearm
when the Iraqi police sling their hooks and leave those poor buggers defenseless I decided not to go.
State said they would review the situation,this was a year ago.
Still nothing.

I don't remember any of this stuff about 18 months ago in Iraq. At least one man knew how to deal with the loonies - for all his obvious faults.

Oh well, the US is (maybe) closer to the oil reserves that will keep the fat arses of its people warm (and the pockets of its political and corporate elite lined) for a few decades whilst they send the world into a climactic nose-dive (with reference to Kyoto).

Interesting programme on TV last night "The curse of oil". Scary really how desperate the US seems and how fertile a breeding ground places like Georgia and Azerbijan are for fundamentalist monsters like this, not to mention the middle east.

I've been keeping an eye on the news and desperately hope that Ken Bigley and the other hostages don't meet such a savage end.

Unfortunately I watched the video last night, if I could turn back the clock and not watch it, I would. This most horrible thing I have ever seen in my life, how someone could do that to person is beyond me. Had quite a restless night lying in bed thinking about it.
The other hostage's families most been going through hell right now.

I can't begin to imagine what Ken Bigley's family, and the families of the others held, are going through at this moment in time. To be so helpless in such a situation. It's absolutely horrific.

I had the chance to go as a medic working for a rather large security firm. I refused the offer and that was with weapons.

People go for many reasons. They may really NEED the money. They may do it to help a nation in ruins. They may do it for adventure. You refused the offer and that is up to you.

I suggest however that you moderate your tone on this matter. There are several people on this forum who have friends/wives/husbands in Iraq at present.

But in response to Martins1001 comment, i think it is fair to say that everyone who goes to Iraq , whether civilian worker or military knows that it is a dangerous place to be, anyone who says otherwise is probably just too scared or too stupid to admit it. And that to me spells danger in itself, because once you become complacent you become a target. Sorry lads just a birds view on the take.

This guy was doing one more job before he could retire, he wasn't there for any military purposes and was trying to help this country get back on its feet. Now its looking increasing likely that in the next day or so he will be beheaded and the video of it will be posted on the net for all his friends & family to see! And take it from me if its anything like the American's video, its a long, slow drawn out process, sick, evil....words can't f'king describe...

i will pass your kind words onto my many friends doing cp work out in iraq, some of which are doing it for the cash but that does not make it ok to be beheaded?
