Leaving training at wk29 was the worst mistake I’ve ever made in my life. I joined originally with 843tp where even from the outset I had a lot of problems physically. I got to wk 22 and got stuck in hunter straight after bottom field pass out with a dodgy knee. I spent six months there and then joined 857tp who I completed my tests with in wk26 (as they were in the old syllabus). It was at this point after what should have been such a defining moment in my career when things started going wrong back home (quite seriously) and I lost the motivation to continue. I know it sounds unbelievable and to me, it is now I’ve realized what I threw away. I went on to field firing and final ex and at the end of final ex after struggling with the yomps over dartmoor (75km, 2.5days, 120lb) I was told I’d failed and at the time I didn’t even care that much. Now I’ve came home and everything is sorted out I want to go back, I left july 15th ’04 which means I’m eligible to return 12 months from then.
I don’t want this post to sound melancholic, just want to get across to people that if you’re in training and want to leave don’t! it’s a massive regret of mine but at 22 I reckon I’ve still got a chance to go back and get it cracked.
Thanks for your time, daz
