Special Boat Service and Special Air Service are two swords from the same anvil but with different objectives.
The purpose of SF units is specialization hence the name "Special".
These special units were created different to serve different needs.
True SF operators recognise and respect their fellow Services worth as much as they do their own.
The SBS are amphibious units while SAS operate predominately on the ground.
This difference does not make one better than the other.
Professionals do not descriminate, yet merely observe and analyse with the aim to learn and be better prepared.
SBS do not claim they are better than the US Navy SEALS neither does the US Army SPECIAL FORCES claim they are better than the SAS.
Why?
Occasionly these four units cross-train or participate in joint exercises to improve their skills.
They learn to respect each other's similarities as well as their differences.
Why?
Becuase SF operators are all cut from the same mold, only the shapes differ.
They are smart enough to recognise this.
So why bicker about who's the best.
Rather concentrate on what YOU are doing than what others are doing.
As for slandering and dragging another man's name through the mud.
I have no time for those who are so insecure about themselves that they feel the need to talk trash about their fellow humans.

famewolf - That was a very dispassionate view of UK Special Forces and VERY close to the mark. My feeling is that if the SAS/SBS followed your guidelines then the whole SF community would be better off!

i cant remember who made the comment about ryan and mcnab being respected but i have to disagree. I mean i respect that they were in the sas something i would like to do but dont think i have the kind of mental will power. but i think blaming the mistakes of the mission on a man who died in that particular op is appauling. I mean he can't answer back for himself and imagine how vince family must feel having that blamed on their dead son I'm sure vince was a more respectable soldier than both of them.
