I thought after are previous disscusions you had grown up and ceased being a knobber! This post was written along with the old posts a few months ago (check the date at the top!) If you read my latest thread in reply to some of the old hands I explained my current situation! I was offered a place in the Irish Army yet I have decided to go to the Royal Irish Rangers and was attested this week (start in a fortnight!)Most of the lads sympathise with my situation yet for some reason you chose to slag and annoy me ,why? I never even meet you at CTC you got some personal problem with me? Ill be back in the mainland soon perhaps you want to sort it out!?

For any of you reading the previous post and un-familiar with my situation ....I was put up for medical discharge entering the Commando phase of trainning, hence when I came out the future of my career within any of the services looked in doubt .So I posted suggestions in desperatoin ,I agree these seem like those asked by a Walter but I merly had to look to these places as my own forces would not take me! I have finalised my recruitment into the Irish army but chose to go full time TA in N.I as I would rather stay in my own forces! Any other q's feel free to ask!!

Are you stupid lad or can you simply not read? These questions where posted as I had no other options and was quite threaders with my situation! I am now serving again (as of monday) with the RIR and also have an application in process for re-joining CTC as I seen in this months G&L they are offering £2000 to nods previously passed wk15 to re-join its a shoot in the dark but hey its worth a try!! I was having a hard time since I left CTC (the RIR has been my first lucky break) so I came on this site looking for advice and offering mine to lads going on PRMC'S or starting trainning and was well recived by all but you.... If you realy have a personal problem with me(and we never meet at CTC so I dont see how?) Ill be at Catterick in 3wks for a MG Troop course with 1RIR so you know where to find me......

It made my interested in what a theoretical UK "Commando Regiment" recruit would have to do, based on the current Infantry and Commando Gunner/ Sapper courses:Bruce McDonald wrote:Thanks mate, I see what you were getting at. Common Military Syllabus - 12 weeks (Basic Training)
Combat Infantrymans Course - 14 weeks (Infantry Training)
Pre-Commando Course - 6 weeks (unit based training and selection)
All Arms Commando Preparation Course - 1 week (CTC based selection)
All Arms Commando Course- 8 weeks (Commando training)
All Arms Parachute Course - 6 weeks
= 47 weeks to get into the regiment.
Then, as vulnerable to capture troops they would under similar escape and evasion, and resistance to interogation training. Then possibly a patrols course....
Personally, I think the idea of an Army Commando Regiment is a good one, or at least reraise 41 CDO RM, as maneuverist doctrine needs 4 maneuver units....

regarding the additional training that Aus Cdo undertake, a list of schools is as follows:
after the 41 week program that has already been posted in this thread continuation training involves...
DFSW Operator;
Mortar Operator;
Basic Sniper;
SF Climber;
Mountain and Cold Weather Operations;
Combat Survival;
Reconnaissance;
Language; and
Commando Operational Watercraft (COW) Coxswain.
......and further schools that commandos may undertake are:
Climbing supervisor
Parachute jump master - Static line
Unarmed combat instructor
Demolitions supervisor
Advanced commando amphibious operator
Advanced special weapons
Survival Instructor
CQB instructor
Mountain warfare instructor
Commando section operations
Military assistance regional training and co-operation.
Infantry platoon operations
Roping supervisor
Parachute jump instructor - static line
Unconventional warfare
