Hopefully off in Jan but awaiting confirmation. I basically practised speed, distance, time questions, read The Week and listened to Radio 4. There is not a great deal much more that you can do to be honest. The physical stuff is really easy and if you are half fit then you won't break sweat (10.2 on the bleep, 44 press ups and 60 sit ups I think). Are you applying?

Certainly am! Got my briefing in three weeks. The preparations you suggested are pretty much what ive been doing. I know a lot of the qualities they look for at RCB are innate but doesnt hurt to put a bit of prep in. Are they any major do's/dont's you can think of?

Right then:
Q.Are they any major do's/dont's you can think of?
A. Do not go heavy on the booze. Couple of the blokes on mine did and it was noted. Be assured, you are being watched. Do smile and be enthusiastic the whole time. It is knackering and you must appear hungry for it the whole time.
Q. What like intelligence tests did you have to do?
A. General Knowledge (Literature, Art, Etc), Current Affairs and Military knowledge. The General Knowledge is surprisingly hard and you are expected to know composers and the history of art.
Q. How different was main-board compared to the briefing?
A. Totally different. Much harder tests. More mentally taxing and they do not give you any feedback so you start to doubt your performances, especially when your colleagues do that post exam type analysis, which I suggest you avoid
Q. What did you find the toughest?
A. Undoubtedly the grilling on the Planning Exercise. There is much more to remember and they really give you a good going over. Strangely if you go either first or last, you get it easier...I was not so lucky.
