Pay

Post by shifty_uk »

Right, in the past ive been handed a leaflet with the Royal Marines pay on it by my local AFCO, BUT i dont have a clue about pay etc, So ive been askin around and some people tell me the royal marines pay is rubbish and other people tell me its gr8 wages. Can someone patch this up for me?

I think its about 11K a year Marines get, and it gets higher as u climb the ranks of course.

Its nowhere near as high as it should be.

Estate agents... how much do they get? Do they ever need to go and get shot at for the security of the country? Bah.

I seem to remember it being around the 11,700 mark, but dont quote me on that.

Sorry to tell you Rambo mate but you won't actually see that increase till you are either in week 27 (works for some lads?) or more than likely when you join your unit! The pay goes up as after Ex. Baptist Run you are classed as a "Trainned Infantry" soldier ,can't remember the exact sum but it aint much! Wrong line of work to be in for the money lads! Just remember to proff as much off Pusser as you can!!

I get £31.32 a day, but around £150 is taken off in Tax, National Ins, Food and Accomodation. So you'll be looking at around £700 per month. You get £70 advance in cash in week 1 and another £140 advance a week later that you pay back £35 per month I think. Make sure you take your P45 if you have one so you dont get raped for emergency tax. :D
Passed PRMC 17th December 2003

Started Basic 5th July 2004 880 Troop, Jan 2005 886 Troop, June 2005 893 Troop, July 2005 895 Troop

Got MD 3rd November 2005

Depends what you mean by 'good'? It isnt very much compared to alot of jobs, you could even earn more working in a factory. But what would you prefer..... a long, boring, unsatisfying, and unrespectful job or be in the Royal Marines. Life is about living and doing what you enjoy, not working somewhere you hate just to keep up your mortgage. You will have enough to live and have a large amount of alcohol  :drinking: That is all I consider to be important

"Life is what happens when you're making other plans".

You get paid just enough to go through training and buy whatever you need and a few runs ashore. But I don't think it's enough if you've got bills/loan to pay or a family to support.

Personally I don't think it's too bad, one lad in my troop was on £30,000 a year before he joined  .

Joining the Royal marines isnt about the money is the whole life experience thing. When i was thinking about joining up i could give to squirts of piss what the pay was like, i just thought about the exciting propects behind becoming a marine.
