Jules......as Skicks sayes the Grisoft AVG is excellent as a freebie but if you have enough readies or your flevible friend is flexible enough, then Dr. Norton anti virus and Systems doctor are possibly the best. Install them first and load the rest of your software. Nortons will look at each installation and remember how it should be, inc MS98, 2000 or XP if all goes Buttcoks over Breast (see I can be KOOF). Dr.N will endrvour to correct it, this explanation is somewhat short.... but the progs are worth the money........

We still use Norton Systemworks but have de-installed the antivirus side of the programe. The antivirus side of it is not as good as AVG but the Norton Utilities (disc doctor, speed disc etc) side of the programe are very good and come highly recomended. Don't go with AOL... there are so many people that I know who have tried to remove AOL and failed forcing them to reintall windows and loose verything.Virgin are fine, I was with them and still have an email account with them. If you intend to go broadband at a later date go with someone who can provide both, that way when you change to Broadband you can keep the same account and everything else.
