Guys from the unlucky regts will mostly not get sacked, just have to go into new regts. Looks to me as if the Cheshires, the Staffords and the Sherwood Foresters will go into a West Midlands Regt. of some kind, esp. since in the last round of cuts in 1994 they tryed to merge the Staffords and the Cheshires. Those two are the only proper (single) country regiments left in existence. Not for much longer
how will fusing regiments together save them money if they're not cutting down on manpower? They must be getting rid of a lot of soldiers as well. Will they offer redundancies to people who want them, or just basically "sack" people, as an earlier post said? Does anyone know any more than the rumours read in the papers?
"Some day a real rain will come and wash all the scum off the streets..."
The way i understand it now is that by 'fusing' these regmnts the MOD can cut back on the admin ppl needed to ruin them...but it's still a bunch of B*llocks.. And this is probably biased because I'm in the TA but can any one see that now that the war in Iraq is 'over' its is the soldiers and Marines and the RAF regiment that are doing the peace keeping. I can understand the proposed cuts in Anti-Submarine and Air defence measures, and the Navy to some extent (but we still need them to get us there!) as out current political climate sujests that our upcoming conflicts will be against low-tech and poorer (spell?) countries... Unless we decide to restart the Korean War that is....
I don't know... This whole thing chafes my gonads... and I'm happy to be proved wrong on the Role of the RAF and the NAVY. I don't think im being biased, but i may not know the whole score...
