Australian Army or RM

Post by Bruce McDonald »

I'm 17 soon and im torn betweening joining the Royals or the Australian army. Previously I was sure that I wanted to join the RM's, but I have put a lot of thought into and Im not sure any more. If I was to join the Australian army, I would be looking at applying for the commando's when I am eligble. The main thing is, I want to go to Uni, but I also want to join up just as much. So the Australian Defence Force Academy sounds like a good option. There I can study and do military training at the same time, and move on to the Royal Military College, where I train as an officer. Both the Marines and ADFA sound tempting, but I cant decide. I have a feeling I am learning towards the Australian Army though. Decisions like this can really do your head in. :-?

Cheers,
Bruce

NOW is that, Loose Bruce, Spruce Bruice or Juic Bruice ?
I guess you have answered your own Question... Its a long way to Blighty only to find that you cant cut the mustard...sos to speak... Joining the best Corps in the world is not a matter of, shall I or shan't I... You either know you're going for it or not.... A Commando course, If you can get one , is Just.........Well second best.... Go and study and then think about it

Yeh, fair enough. But when Im saying commando course. I mean 4RAR commandos, part of the Australian SF group. Not exactly second best, more a closer to home alternative

Hey up mate, I was in the exact same problem as you are a couple of months ago except with the Kiwi army.

I decided to join up as an officer here, since they are paying for my uni, I may even get to go to ADFA for a couple of years. Then when my return of service is complete I intend to join the Royals. But you never know, you may join the Oz/Kiwi army and decide you like it heaps or go to the marines and find you hate it.

My 2c, hope it helps.
Cheers, Gareth
