At the end of the day, the simple fact is that your folks are raising you to be able to go off and live your own life, and if this is what you wanna do, then you should do it. They'll come round in the end, and if they don't then it's unfortunate.

Do what you need to do yourself buddy, I come from an all forces background and my Mother was worried sick about me joining when I was a kid so I didn't bother, then came back to the idea when I was a few years older, met a girl who also would not have it. Now I am 29 and have come back to the same mental place and as a compromise giving my age am joining the TA with the option of becoming a reg for a few years at a later date.

Don't hide from yourself or let others define you, you'll come back to the same conclusion in the end!!
