What is It

Post by Chameleon »

I have a medallion. It is about 40mm dia. It is more brassy looking than bronze. On one side is the RM crest, and on the other a dagger. Above the dagger are the words Royal Marines, and below the word Commando. What is it ?

Chameleon.

If on the side with the commando knife there are the words, Leadership, Unselfishness, Cheerfulness under Adversity, Courage and Determination, and personal Example, you have a Commando Medal. Awarded to the Officer or man who shows throughout his course that he possesses these attributes.
Normally only one medal is awarded in each squad, under exceptional circumstances more than one is awarded, but this is rare.
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

Ahoy there!
Further to El Prez's comments. If the medal you have was ever actually awarded to an individual it ought to have his name and number engraved on it.
