week 17 now and we're doing 'key skills' (GNVQ) . Ive thouroughly enjoyed the course and I've made some great mates. At the mo I'm a little dissapointed as we just recieved our postings. I'm going to 34 Squadron in Leeming. I put my first 3 choices down as Rapier - 37, 26, 16 but no one on our course got Rapier... =[
I pass out on July 8th and going to Belize for Jungle training in October then relieving 51 sqdn in Iraq in January. I was under the impression that Rapier was crying out for people so not getting Rapier shocked me a little. My best mates also put down Rapier and they're going on the same Sqdn as me so thats a bonus =]
Im now excited and nervous...
Anyone on this forum served with 34 sqdn? Whats the base like, facilities etc?
I banked on getting Rapier no probs but didnt. Im worried on whats gonna happen with me and my girlfriend (I've been with her for 4 yrs). War is now a reality for me, Im not scared, its what we've been trained to do, its just gonna be hard missing my girl (or will she want to finish with me?) =[
Anyways! Back to the training,
Ive done so much since starting the course and you cant really describe what its like until youre actually here. Bayonet training was probably my favourite part... getting beasted then just going mental =] Ive represented the RAF Reg in a shooting competition against other RAF recruits (coming 4th out of 31 other recruits).
Ive been trained on how to fight in built up areas, throw grenades, the list is endless. I have so many memories allready and look forward to doing many other great things in the future.
My advice to new recruits is to keep your head down, do what you're told and make sure you have a sense of humour
We got the course piss up
this friday so should be fun. Speak to ya'll soon
