James, In the Para's they want people that are committed to the unit, and they put their heart and soul into passing the P Course. Now the way you whine on it is as if you are looking for an excuse to fail the course. As they say in the Para's, "failure is not an option", so if you have this mind set of failure, at this stage then you will be as much use to them as a fart in gale. You are saying that you are 17 years old, well by 18 I had a rifle and bayonet and was off fighting for Queen and Country.

Tab,
I appreciate that you, at my age, were a soldier in the reg, and that you find it confusing that i am not JUST going 100% for Para reg, ignorant of all other units.
I am firstly trying for Officer, and secondly, i will be as regimentaly proud as anyone when i am finally in that regiment.
Dont see what all the fuss is about...and i am not whining, i am debating, and fighting for my corner

I AM getting on with it. I went to Canterbury on Tuesday to see my careers Officer and had a chat with him and get his opinion on me not going to Uni, and about applying for the RM aswell. I am going on a Potential Infantry Officer Familiarisation Visit at the end of the year, and i am have a eye test next week to complete some forms for the Royal Marines so that i can continue with my application and hopefully i will do my POC sometime early next year.

Ever since I began thinking about this seriously, it was the PARAS I was set on.
I know a couple of bootnecks and its was the same with them
Both our units require the uttermost level of determination to get in. On my recruit course there was a absolutly useless bloke. He failed miserably with us, has since laughably attempted SAS selection and has now left to attempt RM (Where he will unquestionable fail as well).
He is simply attracted by perhaps "elite forces" as a whole and has no deep seated desire to any particular unit. This man is a walter.
If you want something, make your mind up what it will be and stick to it, otherwise you will be a lost cause.
Having said this, good luck with your chosen choice. Just make sure you arent the man who has attempted all, passed none.
Also, you say you are going for officer yet not goin for uni. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING I WOULD ADVISE. If you do end up as an officer in the PARAS or RM, almost all your soldiers you be older than you and you would have very little in the way of life experience. Even 6 months on from leaving school my outlook on life has completely changed. As an officer you would be expected to deal with numerous difficulties. You probably havent yet been f@#k over by the Inland Revenue (yet) etc. I know an officer who has had a corporal of his come to him to tell him one of his toms is sleeping with his wife! Do you think you could deal with that kind of stuff as a schoolboy? I know i couldnt.

What is your opinion on people who join as a soldier and gain experience as a soldier, then apply for officer after a few years, and what is the likelyhood of this actually happening. Surely the soldiers would have more respect for someone who has the balls to go and slog it out as a soldier before going for Officer?
James
p.s thanks for the advice
p.p.s i am intending to go through with this and make a career out of it, i am not a walter pretending to be someone i am not. Cheers anyway.

My god lad, sort yourself out and show some respect! There is a large amount of experience on this board take advantage of it ,don't throw it back in the face of those who "Know What They Are Talking About!" You say you are going on an RM POC I know lads who have passed (and failled in some cases). I suggest you change your attitude ASAP! I have read your previous posts and withheld my judgement ,however now were all being so honest I find you a cocky ,opinionated and arrogant! Just wait till a "old and bold" RM C/SGT or Para S/SGT gets a hold of you as a Rct !Enjoy! Now you will probably reply to this with angrly ,however I suggest you do not! As this is probably the best advice you will ever recive and I have no intentions of being drawn into a "childish slaging match" on the forum!

I would bet that, if i didnt say out loud that i have a plan to try for RM aswell as Para reg, i am sure snotty people like you would not get p*ssed off by anything i say. Perhaps telling everyone that i am not purely going for the paras with a name like James (future Para) was FAR too controversial for everyone, especiall the sensitive types like you.
I appreciate you withholding your 'anger' on other threads. Wouldn't want to force you to say anything out of line and get yourself a warning now would i.

Joining as a soldier and applying to be an officer is all fine with most people.
As an officer you will have to earn the respect of your men whatever way you do it. Most officers that started out as soldiers are on what is known as a late entry commsion, in the infantry I believe this is given out to WOI's only so you better make it to RSM first. A small number were commsioned from junior ranks but don't count on it.

Think what you want lad! You will notice if you read my post I never once mentioned your conflict of interest over which Reg./Corp to join that is your descison; I was comenting on your attitude! Simply put what I meant was "Wise up!".Good luck with POC/RCB/PARA/RM/SIGS/RCT. Trainning or whatever you decide with an attitude like that you will need it!

If you think my 'attitude problem' is evident from what i said to Tab, and what you quoted...
. I actually said 'just as friendly advice' and i meant it. I was not being dissrespectful and i certainly did not mean to offend, i obviously did not offend anyone apart from you"You might be a Moderator now tab, but you do not know everything, so just as friendly advice, dont jump to conclusions."
I dont want to go to war with you, because we may just cross paths at some time and i dont want a history of dissagreements before we even meen in person.
Lets leave it at that.
James
by the way, could you PM me if you have a moment about some of the other things i have said that have got under your nails.
Interesting thread. Shame the pricks of the forum have emerged once more, reflective? your post was of no informational content or help at all to anyone although stating you have no respect for me. was that comment needed?, no i think not. Tossers whereever you go in life i spose. people like you really f@#k get to me.
If its not rainning its not trainning
