Bad Dream - long post serious discussion

Post by Smiler.wales »

Ok This post might seem a bit weird but I need to talk about it with someone and I cant for reasons which will become apparent talk about it with friends and family so as you guys only know me from my posts and dont know me personally I thought youd be a good sounding board for an honest discussion. I have thought long & hard about posting this message as I know Im leaving myself open to ridicule and mockery

. I have to state now that I like to think of myself as a well grounded person ,fairly logical and not particuarly superstitious or given to bouts of irrationality. WIth that in mind read on

On the 9th May 4am in New York I awoke from a nightmare which whilst the cold light of day has dimmed its impact the message of the dream is still lurking around in the back of my mind. Basically in the dream I was told quite specifically "In 30 days your going to die" (nice dream huh)

Now given that Im off to Iraq (fly out very soon now) this is probably not the best time to have a dream like that (mind you when is a good time). Obviously the effect of the dream lessened as the day/s wore on but I have yet to forget about it and its always lurking at the back of my mind.

Ive always thought of dreams as my brain chucking out the subconcious garbage so its probably the looming tour of Iraq plus the frequent coverage of events over there and my imagination being played out in my subconcious. My issue really is the specificity of the date. Because regardless of the accuracy of the dream on the date in question I can see myself being particuarly jumpy.

Now before I go any further there is a main point about the dream it didnt actually specify the place and my way of thinking is that if its going to happen its going to happen wether it be Iraq , UK or on the shitter , I wont be particuarly happy about it but Im not the type to lock myself indoors and hide in the cupboard type of person. So if the dream is right then the worst is going to happen wherever I am. Ill face the situation head on wherever and whenever it happens.

My main problem is that on that predicted date Ill be over in Iraq and if the worst happens over there then its very likely Ill have my section around me and if I have to check out then I dont want to have anyone near me just in case they are affected by the same thing. I have to admit my mind is thinking more along the lines of IEDs , bullets or terrorist intervention mainly because thats the type of thing that could affect my section rather than me specifically. Im fully aware there are other ways it could happen such as illness, driving accident or simply falling over in the shower.

I also have to state as well that I havent accepted this nightmare as inevitable nor will I but I am concerned if something does happen its going to happen to all my section or anyone else for that matter and I d like to avoid that if possible. In complete contrast to all that Ive written Im still quite positive about the tour and Im carrying on with my life as normal including making plans for after the tour so Im not giving in or anything like that

I have thought about trying to do everything in my power to get that date off so im nowhere near anyone on the day(including to have a word with the chaplin) but as the days wear on the nightmare is losing a bit of its power but im sure as it gets really near it will be still f@#k about in my head.

I hope you guys dont think Im being a wimp about this Im a good soldier and not easily flustered and even with this going on in my life Im still going to do a proffesional job out there with a positive attitude. Im just being very honest about a nightmare I had

Im sure you all have had nightmares and know sometimes how real and disturbing they can be. Im hoping that by discussing this on the web I can banish the nightmare once and for all but in all honesty I think im just going to have to wait for the date to pass before I can do that and realise what a mountain ive made out of one bad dream.

So any thoughts

Final destination stuff!
If you miss it on the 30th Day, death will try and kill you in various ways such as flying fish hooks, buses, electical cables and holes in the ground.

Hopefully in a more positive note, dreaming of death is actually a really good sign.

It's supposed to represent a new beginning or chapter of your life which I suppose going to Iraq is. It's all about beginnings rather than death and endings.

I'm more than sure that the date will pass uneventfully.

I read somewhere that one of the "Ox&Bucks" had a dream that on D-Day, his glider would land in the canal (the pegasus bridge canal) and he would drown. He was so terrified he deserted before they took off. No glider landed in the canal and he was courtmatialed. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
