Marine, Paratrooper, RAF Regiment & French Foreign Legionaire. They all have one thing in common they are all soldiers. It stands to reason that if someone is interested in that way of life all infantry formations are going to be considered. If someone wants to be a Bricklayer when they leave school they are not going to apply to one company to do an apprentiship are they? A good friend of mine has just left the RAF as a navigator. I remember years ago when we were in the ATC together and he was applying for a scholarship. I suggested to him that if he failed, would he consider the Fleet Air Arm or Army Air Corps? He looked at me if I was mad and so did a lot of other people think it was a bad suggestion as well. But it seemed like the normal thing to do to me. I see that the same attitude still persists. I think I'll tell the Job center that I only want to work for one company's IT department. I wonder if they will accept that?

Every one takes their turn at force protection. fact of life, Para's stag on, marines stag. We all do at some point. What matters is that good op's do come up and a small unit like ourselves we get to have more goes than most. We are highly reguarded within the SF world and do work with them, there are a good amount of gunners who now serve in the SAS and now the SBS has become tri-service several are attempting selection.
The regiment's job in Basra is an excellent start for anyone's carreer. There's nothing like patroling in a hostile enviroment with two GPMG's strapped to a WMIK.
We are one of the only forces to be using WMIK along side the Para's and Marines. Bog standard infantry units don't get them unless they borrow them out in theatre. We have all the same equipment as para's and marines i.e the new night vision, minimi, usgl etc etc.
We have a very expericenced mortar flight on each sqn which provides 75 % of the fire power. Thats four barrels! We are regularly training with FACS who call in fire mission. I belive we are one of the only units to fire on a very regular basis.
Our snipers are trained to the highest standard. A 2% pass rate is considered genrous.
Who cares what people say about the regiment. We are not the biggest unit, certainly one of the most expericenced with recent conflicts; We go in get the job done and get back with the minimum fuss and bother. If some one doesn't know what we do then it's no loss to us.
What unit last parachuted in operational?? 2 SQN RAF REGT. Sierra Lione.
The latest jungle qualification was first pass by the regiment.
Questions from any doubters??
