Jon and I are in 874 Troop and we have 858's old training team. We are a small troop that started off with 30 and picked up 2 NAMET Biffs. Our training team are very hard but fare. They have very high standards and are extremely professional and I am certain that we will all be better soldiers when we walk out that main gate. We also have a good laugh. I have already gone through 20 weeks of recruit training so I know what to expect but compared to my old training team I had it extremely easy the first time around.
So far in the first two weeks we have been crawling around foundation block on our knees and elbows until the flesh has been completely ripped off them. We have been put in all sorts of painful stress positions, we have been doing press-ups on our knuckles. Press-ups are being dished out in blocks of 70's and even hundreds. We have been beasted/thrashed every day since we have been there and have also been tanked. A few of the recruits got caught wearing underpants under their PT shorts so we were doing press-ups naked outside of the foundation block. We have this idiot in our troop who always does his own thing and he was made to run up and down foundation block wearing his bergan and shouting 'I must label my kit.. I must label my kit'. As this recruit is like 'Superman' and pain does not affect him, he was also made to carry another bergan. We even had one recruit in tears!
We have also been subjected to endless quick changes but at the end of the day there is a good reason for all this madness. I have also learned some great new skills and better ways of doing things so it is certainly not boring for me. We also have a great bunch of lads and despite the harshness, we have a fine training team.
By the way, my purpose of this post was not to winge but to simply give you a clear idea on what recruit training can initially be like. My recommendation for you is work on your core stability and frequently practice holding the perfect press-up position in addition to all your training. If you do get thrashed then just take it like a man as it is only pain. The quicker you all work as a team and switch on then the quicker all the thrashings will stop - usually they last about 15 weeks. Also take the rough with the smooth and have a good laugh at it when you are at scran.

Jon, As soon as I arrived home I slept for 7 hours and I have been dying all weekend as I have caught that nasty infection from 'Virgin Boy'. How have you been feeling? I remember hearing alot of coughs going around last Friday and I hope that I can get rid of it today so that I can start some serious training tomorrow.
Yes, that beasting we had on the first Thursday was the worst thing I have ever gone through. Remember work on your core stability.
