Is it hard to get in to the gurkhas as an officer? is there big competition amongst the officer cadets

If you don't have any family linkage it might be an idea to travel to Nepal and spend some time there, learn some of the language, mingle with the people etc, you'll be looked upon MUCH more favourably and it will give you an edge if you're really serious about it.
