Gurkha's?

Post by defender2 »

Hi all,
I was reading a Para book recently and noticed the comment that "from the early 1990s the Gurkhas were the only British regiment to heavily oversubscribed withn recruits, with 300 men applying for every vacancy"

I was wondering why basically? Obviosuly there a crack regiment but that much more than others?. What numbers of officers apply to join the gurkha's?.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

perhaps then they should expand the gurkha's? or set up a reserve of hurkhas-sure you wouldn't pay them buttons but in the event of war, well, gurkha's are the type of troops who see enemies go running to mommy at the sight of the regamental flag....
Got my application form, now to work on the parents....
