a 3 piece safety razor
Are you joking, there was not much safe about them, they were absolutly lethal. Any sideways movement and your good looks were toast.

Remember when using diposables in the field to have a new one set aside for each day. If you're laying kit out for inspection and the razor is less than immaculate, you will end up on the flank.....Arms bend'em....

I'm surprised to hear that you shouldn't use them in Norway (although it does make sense) as in Nigel Foster's book The Making of a Royal Marine Commando he says that men in Norway shave with battery powered razors to prevent cuts & scratches that would take a long time to heal in that environment.

Just goes to show that you shouldn't believe everything you read! :o I can certainly understand the point about the noise they make & the fact that they do not shave as well as a wet razor.

Also, spot on about using shaving oil in the field. Much easier and it seems to act as a sort of moisturiser as well.

I used that King of shaving oil today and It was better than I expected, a good shave quick shave and not as messy as foam. I think i'll invest in some soon, Is a Mach 3 Turbo a good razor to use in basic.

Is there any other brand of shaving oil that you guys would recommend? I went to get one of those free samples from King of Shaves, and they only send them to a few select countries, and Canada's not one of them. Any Canadians have any suggestions on a type of oil that's good to use for PRMC/Basic?

Cheers, Brent

Sorry about my quote on using leccy razors in norge. I used one for quick scrapes prior to picking up passengers of elevated rank, but being able to access hot water easily I still wet shaved! A good battery razor is essential in Norway, but as I say you have to sleep with it.
Somersets is another oil, perhaps you should try buying some, shake those moths out of that wallet my Canuck friend!

Oh ya, I don't mind purchasing some, even if it's expensive. I'd just like to know what works, and what doesn't... that's all.

It certainly is, gives a close smooth shave, is contained in a tiny bottle which is easy to carry and lasts 100 shaves, especially if as recommended you only use 3-4 drops per shave. Compare carrying a tin of face mousse to carrying something the size of your thumb. You know it makes sense
