You're right there.

Maj Gen Milton has been medically downgraded so has been replaced by Maj Gen Wilson as CGRM. Brig Dutton (current OC 3 Cdo Bde) will still become CGRM in May 2004.

Best thing to do is grab the latest copy of the Globe & Laurel. The contents page tells of where Royal is getting up to hijinks around the world.

It's 4 overall but practically 3 as you include your time at CTC.

7. What was the Corps last battle honours?
Is the last battle honours
'The Globe' Granted by King George IV in place of Battle Honours, 1827
???

Everything else is refered to as Memorable Dates - Ten dates in the history of the Corps considered to be particularly significant:

23rd April - The Raid on Zeebrugge in 1918

28th April - Gallipoli in 1915

6th June - The Landings in Normandy in 1944

7th June - The Battle of Belleisle in 1761

14th June - The Recapture of the Falkland Islands in 1982

17th June - The Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775

24th July - The capture of Gibraltar in 1704

21st October - The Battle of Trafalgar in 1805

28th October - The Birth of the Corps in 1664

1st November - The Assault on Walcheren in 1944

On top of this each unit has it's own memorable dates.

Can one more wise than myself please clarify?

Ok here they are, the complete and correct answers to the questions (well hopefully).

I have begged borrowed and stole from other places so to those people i apologise now.

1. What is the date of birth of the corps?
28th October 1664

2. What is the motto of the Royal Marines?
Per Mare Per Terram

3. What does it mean?
By Sea By Land

4. Describe the Corps Badge!
The Lion and Crown denotes a ‘Royal’ regiment. George III conferred this honour in 1802 ‘in consideration of the very meritorious services of the Marines in the late war’.

‘The Great Globe itself’ surrounded by laurels was chosen by George IV as a symbol of the Marines’ successes in every quarter of the world. The laurels are believed to honour the gallantry they displayed during the capture of Belle Isle in 1761.

‘Gibraltar’ represents the capture and defence of that territory in 1704. It was considered by George IV to be one of the most glorious achievements of the Royal Marines and he decided that the words should represent the honours they had earned.

The Fouled Anchor, incorporated into the emblem in 1747, is the badge of the Lord High Admiral and shows that the Corps is part of the Royal Navy.

‘Per Mare Per Terram’, ‘By Sea By Land’ the motto of the Royal Marines, believed to have been used for the first time in 1785.

5. What happened at Walcheren?
The Assault on Walcheren -1 November 1944
The leading troops in the successful seaborne attack on Walcheren in November 1944, were the 4th Special Service Brigade (Brigadier B W Leicester DSO) consisting of Numbers 41, 47 and 48 Commandos and Number 4 Army Commando. The three RM Commandos attacked Westkapelle, to open Antwerp Port. To my belief it was the first Amphibious assault carried out by the Royal Marines.

6. Who was Hannah Snell?
In late 1747, the young Worcester born Hannah Snell dressed herself in men's clothes and enlisted with the Marines at Portsmouth. Under the name of James Gray, she sailed to India as part of a large expedition sent to capture the French occupied town of Pondicherry. While in the East, Snell fought in two sieges and claims to have received many injuries, including a bullet wound to her groin. Despite these injuries and her close proximity to her shipmates, she says she concealed her true sex until her return to England in early 1750. Eager to profit from her adventures, Snell immediately sold her story to the London publisher, Robert Walker. Her appearance on stage in uniform caused a sensation and news of her adventures quickly spread across the country. In November 1750, the Royal Chelsea Hospital officially recognised Snell's military service and granted her a lifetime pension. She lived for another 40 years, marrying twice and raising two boys. In 1791, Snell was admitted to the notorious Bedlam lunatic asylum, where she died six months later.

7. What was the Corps last battle honours?

The Royal Marines played a vital role in this brief but bloody war. Weeks before the Task Force arrived, men of the Special Boat Service were on shore scouting out possible landing sites. Later they played a crucial part in the battles for Port Stanley and Goose Green.
