Ryan does not blame Vince for being compromised, neither does McNab.
Ryan does not make himself out to be the switched on one, he merely checks what is going on based on his own training and perspective.
He told his version of events as he saw it, and in extreme situations, perception can change and distort facts, and therefore so can someone's recollection of it. it's human nature.

I had a lecture from the gent who was 'Stan', and his description of his capture is still vivid in my mind some X years after. Some thing like,
"I went to the house, the front door opened and an AK came out then the soldier, so I shot him, then another, who I shot and so on for about 3 or 4 people, until noone came out again. I then opened the car door to look for the keys when another soldier came out, on full auto! After spraying creation with the full mag and not hitting the car I was hiding behind I tried to shoot him, click! In my tiredness I forgot to put on a fresh mag before I came here and didnt have any on me. As I was looking over the top of the car I saw the soldier looking at me with eyes the size of sausers. He then started shouting and all his mates came out and I thought 'this is it'".
He covered all the operation in the same detail. It was only a few years after and he was still in but was due to leave and return to Aus.
As for who is correct, well I know who to beleive and he hasnt made money from it!

As an adventure story, it's an absolute ripper. As a reflection of actual events, it's bollocks! If McNab & Ryan had any integrity or conscience, they'd print under their own names. Everyone who matters knows who you are anyway, so why the pretence?
You defile the honour, tradition and history of the Regiment and those who have served, and continue to serve within it, and I am deeply ashamed of the pair of you tarnishing the memory of some damn fine soldiers. For a far more accurate assessment of events, try "Eye of the storm" - ex-RSM Peter Ratcliffe and "The real Bravo Two Zero" - Michael Asher. Ex-Regt,Australia

Scouse McLoughlin without doubt deserved a big medal for his actions on that hill. 20 odd years later it is still a source of anger amongst 3 Para that he was overlooked. I have some good friends amongst 3 Para veterans and the reason he was not honoured is well known also. I will not state what that reason is as it is hearsay, his heroism on Longdon is unquestioned.Sisyphus wrote: It's interesting that medals seem to have been awarded on the basis of individual's own testimony. Unlike Cpl Stewart McLaughlin of B coy 3 Para whose actions in the Falklands surely warranted an Honour if anyone's did? And he didn't even get mentioned in despatches.
Sorry, I digress......
He essentially acted as a platoon commander for most of the night and personally carried out numerous actions that in isolation would have been considered for gallantry awards. It has been said to me by more that one veteran of Longdon that if Ian McKay deserved a VC then McLoughlin deserved no less.Chrisno150 wrote:what did Scouse McLoughlin do that makes you think he deserves a medal?
