Yeah i see what you mean. I need to improve my longer distance running. Im in one of those catch 22 situations. I need to improve my strength (im 15 1/2 st and can barely do 3 pull-ups). But-id find it easier if i lost the excess weight-so thats where running comes in. I suppose the thing to do would be concentrate on running/rowing machines (cardiovascular) to lose the weight and then concentrate on the upper body strength. Oh well-it seems like a mountain to climb but as i heard someone say 'Cant=Wont=You shouldn't be here!'.

No dis-respect mate but 15 and a half stone and you joining the Marines is going to be tough...Ideal weight ratio of a bootneck is between 12 and 14 stone no more...your just to god damn heavy fella. Yomping with weight and speedmarching...with your body weight is going to be a beast and heat exhaustion can set in quick as well as dehydration with that body weight...To start Commando training at that weight mate will be very hard for you and I am not slating you just advising...You may be linford Christie but even still it would be tough...If you want help mate just call me up here I will be glad to help you....training,diet,etc.....No offence intended mate polite reply....freestyler_onli wrote:Yeah i see what you mean. When I joined it was the PRC a 3 day course at Lympstone arriving at Lympstone Commando on the River Exe.I joined from Chatham careers office with my return rail warrant. A corporal walked all recruits to the PRC block(Hunter Troop were bunked here too).
On the last day we did our 1 and a half mile timed run 3 times around the camp.I was about 11 stone 6Ib then and remember finishing 1 and half miles in about 8mins 15....Not superman but I passed.

The 3 days I should imagine is pretty much the same yes...do you still do the USMC fitness test..sqaut thrusts, pressups, sit ups, burpees, all timed and the 5 by 60 metre sprints outside the gym near the parade ground....In the afternoon we did the endurance course on the same day is that still so..rambo wrote:people on the prmc still share the same block as hunter troop

Yeah no sweat A SQUADRON 21- no offence taken. i know i weigh too much- when i passed my Met police day 2-they did a BMI test. Tehn i was 6ft and weighed about 15st. Thats was a BMI of about 28.2/3-even still-i thought i was a bit heavy. They passed me and told me to imporve my upper body strength. So thats all i did. I was chattin to my mate Matt-he used to be in 42 Commando-and we both agreed that 13 stone would be an ideal weight for me. Dont do weights for the moment-just cardio work and running basically. As for the 8:36 time- it was on a treadmill. I started off at 3.5mph for bout 5 mins (warm up). Then reset it and went upto about 9.7/8. I just pumped my amrs-which seemed to make me legs go faster and ended up with that time. I did feel a bit 'wobbly' when id finished but who cares. Im not applying until i reach my own personal set targets. So i got a way to go yet,but it'll be worth it in the end.
