Squadrons based in Wales

Post by HywelThomas »

Hi, Can anyone tell me what Squadron's are actually based in Wales? If there are any permanent ones. I'm thinking of joning the RAF but i'll need to be stationed here, what are the chances of that happening?

The raf will put you where they need you. It's not impossible for you to influence where they send you but it's extremely unlikely. What trade do you want to go into anyway?

No.4 FTS is based at Valley but there are a couple of non-flying stations in around and close to Wales. Look here; http://www.raf.mod.uk/stations/index.html

Well, those trades are rare in Wales, especially the airman aircrew stuff and the regiment, telecoms operators is the most likely. Why do you want to stay in Wales anyway? You do realise that you will have to live in England whatever you choose.

I don't mind living anywhere but if it was possible for me stay nearer to home it would be a bonus. I'll get in touch with AFCO soon and see what happens.

I am sorry to dissapoint but for your basic and trade training you will have no choice at all, and the liklihood is that you will get posted all over the place. It is only people with family that have a larger influence, yound singla people don't usually jave a choice. If you are a homebird are you sure that the armed forces is for you?

If you're wanting to join the military, you have to accept the fact that you'll move around a lot and live in different places. It's kind of integral with our way of life.
