Light Infantry

Post by Tilly »

I'm thinking about joining the Light Infantry but I'm not sure whether to put a preference for LI1 or LI2.

Has anyone been or is anyone in one of these?

If you could give me an 'insiders' view on the LI in general and any specific info. on the difference (if there is any) in the two regiments it would be much appreciated.

I know one is mechanised and one not and I know I can get 'official' info. on the web but I'm really after some first hand advice/info.

Also, if anyone has got any views/info on Paderborn or Edinburgh that would be really useful aswell.

Thanks

LI1 and LI2 could be the battalion numbers 1 LI AND 2 LI.

He is suggesting that you are confused and that you meant, LI1 was the 1st battalion Light Infantry and LI2 was the 2nd Battalion Light Infantry.

If you want to find out which one is the armoured battalion i would suggest visiting a carreers office, unless someone on here knows the answer.

You're right James, I am confused.
I ,wrongly as it turned out, assumed that someone might actually be able to give me some relevant information rather than totally irrelevant nitpicking.

When did the Light Infantry have two regiments...its two battalions. And no not nitpicking , but attention to detail.

Attention to detail is only relevant if it adds value or, in this case, helps to answer the question.

Your post does neither.

Have you got anything to add which might remotely address the actual points in my original post?

I have to admit to asking more in hope than expectation.

One Regiment, two battalions... get your facts straight. What did the Light Infantry do to deserve you?

Sum up and do some of the work yourself....

First of all I believe you are incorrect in 1LI and 2LI Tilly. This would be one regiment, and with two battalions in it.

Attention to detail is always important so you A) get the facts straight and B) Don't make an ass of yourself.

You got the facts wrong and made an ass of yourself.
Sum up.

1LI is an Armoured Infantry Battalion or Mechanized Infantry whatever way you want to put it same shit different pile, they are currently deployed in Iraq as Operation TELIC 3. 2LI is regular 'light' and I use the term loosely, in Cyprus right now.

Some words of advice, if you are considering a military career then you will find that the guys on here range from young men who are in the early stages of choosing a military career and RM/PARA early stage recruits to ex para's/RM's and maybe even an ex SF guy or 2, I am a civvy and I enjoy making the banter that goes on each day. My advice to you would be save your aggression for training, control your mind and it will be the best mate you ever had.

If you get cheeky with a training team member as you have on here I am sure that your career will be short and sweet, the best advice in life is this, listen and learn to people who know.

Good luck in finding what you are looking for and if what you want is good real world advice from the horses mouth - you are in the right place on this forum.

Speaking of the LI. Has anybody noticed that on the show 'RED CAP', the regiment in trouble, the one with the murderer or the rapist or the drug dealer is always an LI unit? SERIOUSLY, in every episode it's 'there was a murder in Durham Light infantry'. This is lightism dammit!!!
